Beshedas Highres .esp's seems to overwrite other texture .dd

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 1:22 pm

Tryed to give Skyrim a rest for a while and wait for the new patch 1.14.21 and CK to settle in... But it was too hard...
So this evening I let Steam download it all, including the Bethesda High Res package.
The first thing I noticed was that my "glamazon" didn't lock as I remembered her... Was using one little mod by the briliant BellaGail called "Bether females by Bella" http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=2812

Jumped out of game and turned off the HighresTexturePack01&02.esp.
And loaded up the game again and this time, my glamazon was waiting in all her glory.

So it seems like Bethesda made their HighRes texture changes .esp or something...but somehow overwrites, general texture .dds changes aswell(?)
Didn't know they could do that, but every day can give you new and once in awhile sad experiences...;p

Just woundered if any of you out there had noticed this, had or would like to try and take up the challenge against Bethesda?
I myselfe well as I just said, I just downloaded the CK so I haven't even tryed to start it up yet.

Or tryed to figure out how to make a single .dds texture more important (maybe an .esp) to load after Bethesda's own .esp's/high res files...IF it's even possible???

But how to do it, if I or anyone else truly tryed to keep some of their favourit .dds's over Bethedas High Res .esp's???

And I myself will for now leave Bethesda's .esp's aside.
I have downloaded too many High Res Textures, by so many talented artist, just to let those textures fade away into oblivion...

Just by forcing me to correct myselfe in the textlines... Too bad I couldn't find a way to do it in the headline aswell tho... :bunny:

I found this that may explain what's going on: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/560664-topic-on-official-forum-about-bsas-and-conflicts/

Edit: For those who don't want to read it, basically it's this:

Basically the load order is as follows:
* Official bsa's (registered in Skyrim.ini)
* Loose files in the data-directory, manually or NMM-installed mods for instance.
* Custom bsa's (loaded through similarly names .esp's), Workshop-instaled mods come in this form.

If the custom bsa's modify the same texture then it goes in alpha order by the name of the esp file associated with the bsa.

The official hi-res texture pack falls under *Custom Bsa's* so they get loaded last overwriting the loose files or ones that are registered through the ini file.

Yes. A bit of a fail on Bethesda's side, it should have been ordered on modified file time stamps.

No, we'll get a lot of 1myBestMod.bsa and aBobsAwesomeTextures.bsa instead if this isn't fixed.

Doesnt including the high res bsa file names in the Skyrim.ini file and then unchecking them in the launcher solve this problem?

Exactly, what i don't know is which get loaded first when put in the INI. the ones just after the sResourceArchiveList= or after the list of bsa's?
you'd need to put them in an order where bethesda's high res textures are loaded after the stock textures.

only one way to test it. Try it by putting the names first in the INI list. go in game, check. If it didn't work. add it to the end of the list and check again.
I haven't tried it yet myself so, I've no idea if that will work or not, but can't see why it wouldn't.

I put mine right after the texture BSA and as far as I have seen they are working fine and my mod textures are getting loaded too.

Just wanted to thank you Mush23 for some interesting reading about Skyrims loading order.
And you Barney0002 for the hint about tweaking the Skyrim.ini and to type in the order of: Skyrim - Textures.bsa, Skyrim - HighResTexturePack01.bsa, Skyrim - HighResTexturePack02.bsa,

As I read it, with the .ini tweak.... Textures.bsa...as one of the first in the .ini will override any betshedas HighRes--.bsa's later on...
And that by unchecking the .esm boxes by start... even tho the .esm's basicly IS the ruling class...

But by ignoring that file extensions .esm(uncheck with launcher/data) and only go for the .bsa's in this case (by modding .ini)
Then our downloaded .dds's will be our major texture files... (?)

Oohh...pain... that is atleast my modest understanding of this particular problem of loadingorder and not that easy to whrite eather...as you can see :P

Just too bad that I have been out of the game for so long that I dont truly remember what it used to look like.
And at the moment I just don't have the time to jump in and out of the game with 2 .ini settings to try and find the differenses. :ahhh: I might do it later, If someone else don't do it first and care to report back to this tread
