Best Armor for an Archer?

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 10:08 pm

Simple question. I'm going to start using a bow soon, and I have 100 Smithing/Enchanting so I can do whatever gear I want. Probably gonna start with a base of Glass Armor unless there's a unique armor that would be better that I'm not aware of. So what kind of enchants should I put on my armor besides Fortify Archery?

I use Muffle boots, Fortify Archery hood, stamina boosting gloves, and elemental resistances for the rest.

Forsworn armor looks decent, but there's hardly enough to it to really classify as "armor".

I have one toon I consoled in the TG Guildmaster's armor for - now THAT is classy. I'm hoping for something similar for all my girls once the CK is out and the modders get cranked up full-bore.

I want PANTS on my girls thank-you-very-much. I REALLY dislike the armor in this game.

I don't mind Ebony/Daedric/DragonSCALE on females but anything else looks terrible. And I love the TG armor but it already has enchantments on it, so I can't work with that. The DB armor doesn't provide good protection from what I've heard, otherwise I'd enchant that stuff.

Anything to do with stamina regeneration or fortification is always good for an archer if you use the zoom frequently.

Personally I think leather armor looks nice on females though it's fairly weak of course. Nightingale armor looks good too if you forgot the hood so it doesn't cover up the face

Well, for the one girl, the enchant on the armor was fine - fortify carry weight. I enchanted a pair of leather boot with something useful (not in game, can't remember right now) and leather bracers with fortify one-handed (I think... or maybe it was lockpicking....) Hands and feet aren't the issue. The issue for me is having pants.... I HATE skirts and bare legs. And the robes in this game are just.... um.... well, icky.

Can't wait for the modders. I need light armor with pants, AND one-hand katanas sheathed on the back - because ALL the one-hand weapons in this game are too long in sheath, and stick out at a funny angle, not to mention the movement is just.... wrong.

I have enough perks in my light armor tree (level 100) to get my armor cap with dragonscale, if I can get within 400 with leather I'd be willing to go with that. I'll check, still not too fond of the helmet though.

And I'm on the console, so I don't have the luxury of mods and such. ;)

I... installed a mod that lets you have an unenchanted armor set that looks just like the Thieves Guild set (http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=820) but my 2 characters that use Archery almost exclusively are both in the Thieves Guild anyway, and one of them wears Elven Armor because she's an Altmer and feels that is more appropriate.

I had another character that was going the way of Light Armor at first, and I was fine with Glass, but then I did Boethiah's quest and got the Ebony Mail and decided to switch her to Ebony Armor to match. I haven't regretted it.

I would switch to a heavy armored sneaker but I heard that using a bow with Ebony Mail can be a challenge. True?

Oh and Sere, I'm kind of an elitist so I like to have the maximum damage boosts from my own enchanted gear, maximum stamina, etc.

I've never been a heavy armor player. In some games, it's necessary (WoW) but in TES you can get by just fine without it, and it's just so damn clunky and ugly. Well, so is all the light stuff too - unless you get modded stuff. Yes, there's some decent modded stuff already (other than the 12 year old male wet dream stuff.... *sigh*) but I'll wait until the real mods land. Right now, I mostly run in leather even though it's seriously ugly.

I love to enchant, but I absolutely ABHOR smithing and alchemy. There's some nitnoid crap I just will NOT do. So I do what I can with stock stuff and enchants.

Sometimes, yes. If you plan to do mostly sneaking and archery, I wouldn't recommend the Ebony Mail. The cloud effect gets in the way.

I'm with ya on Alchemy, hate it so much. Nor do I like the fact that people are using that alchemy-enchanting loop to get like 2k damage weapons and max damage resistance with leather armor.

Thieves' Guild and Nightingale armors are the nicest in the game IMO. I use a mod so I can smith and enchant my own.

*shrug* I'm sure that's possible - see Ryu's "Artificer" thread for starters. But that's not the game to me.... As long as I can figure out how to stay alive without "excessive manipulation" and/or sidekicks, I'm happy.

You really spend one zot of brain time pestered by what other people do in their game?

And, I love alchemy. Have to admit. CAN'T NOT PICK TEH FLOWERS

I'm not gonna freak out and post a thread that it needs to be patched. That's just not how I feel the game should be played.

I end up collecting tons of ingredients and then forgetting to go use them... and then wondering why I don't have any potions... I'm so dumb sometimes. :)

Plus, to that guy who said Light Armor looks bad on females: I presume Forsworn Armor is what you're looking for? :P

*snort* Well, if he's on PC, he can even find "better" than Forsworn in the mods....

And while I have not any use for alchemy or smithing, it's nice that they're available for folks who love them. I'm perfectly happy to buy pots etc.
