Best Blade Members

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 12:00 pm

Who do you think are the best followers to recruit as Blade Members?

Would it be the Companions? Or maybe the Housecarls?

Reason I ask is because I realize some characters are only good at certain things and stuff.

The only thing Blades recruiting is good for is getting housecarls to stop sitting around getting fat on your bread. Although in my current game they didn't even get those.

Walrus, Oslo, and headless Lydia.

In seriousness, characters that have a decent heavy armour, melee, and ideally ranged so they can help bring dragons down without you needing to burn shout cooldowns on Dragonrend. Housecarls and Companions are a natural fit.

I personally choose followers that have the right skills need to be a Blade: One-Handed, Block, Heavy Armor, and Archery.
This includes: all 5 Housecarls, Ria and Torvar of the Companions, Cosnach, Uthgerd the Unbroken, Kharjo, and Golldir.
I usually choose Uthgerd, Cosnach, and Kharjo due to them seeming more invisible. You don't really notice if the are there or aren't, I mean.

Hmm.... which reminds me - I have yet to become a Vampire. I've been a Werewolf... but I am more of a Vampire person.

Anyone good at Heavy Armor and One-Handed blade, cause that's what they are given. Off the top of my head, Lydia.

I agree, first I was a werewolf and now I want to be a vampire. How do I go about doing that?

I'm pretty sure the easiest way to do so is to simply walk into some Vampires naked and let them attack you until you get infected with it.

But to me, it seems Vampirism was simply 'tossed' into the game. The Werewolves (which is generally the opposite of Vampires in popular media) have their own little questline (albeit it is the Companions Questline) and everything... while the Vampires don't. Plus Vampirism seems like to much of a hassle to have on you.... I don't see the point of it.

You get a 1 in 10 chance at contracting the disease every time you are hit with their spell Vampiric Drain. Best tactic is to get the vampire to re-target you multiple times at range. Close up they may not hit you with the spell.
There are 10 dungeons that are populated by Vampires, plus there is also the chance to get vampires as random encounters in the wilderness at night.
The point of vampirism is probably just to add it as an inconvenience that a player needs to overcome, or if the player doesn't want to overcome it then it is a RP choice. The vampirism + necromage thing can make you feel pretty powerful, though.

I had a similar dilemma.

Ghorbash the Iron Hand - because he served in the Imperial Legion.
Borgakh the Steel Heart - she confess that she feels caged and always wanted to meet new people and see new places, she belives Malacath teaches the Orcs to follow their own fate.
Ria - she's an Imperial, what other reason do You need!? She's also still very young and as a Companion member she has a desire to help people.

They may not be as good as Housecarls but in my opinion those followers are perfect Blade recruit options.

Lmao...ain't this the truth. Even if I take all the food out of my house they still find something to stuff their face with.

Well, first off, wanted to point out a similar thread I started and the responses it got:

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1350360-best-choices-for-blades-recruits/page__p__20363582__hl__blades%20recruits__fromsearch__1#entry20363582

...and then wanted to update you on who I ended up choosing on my current playthrough.

I opted for Nord males with heavy armor, one-handed, archery, and block - and with no other major skill areas - I wanted Blade uniformity - so my choices were:
  • Torvar - one of the recruitable Companions who has no function other than to offer to follow you
  • Golldir - adventurer from Hillgrund's Tomb who will just sit outside the tomb indefinitely (after you complete his quest) unless you ask him to follow you
  • Vorstag - mercenary from the Silver-Blood Inn in Markarth - the only male Nord merc option with the aforementioned skill specializations
The reason for my choices are that Blade wear heavy armor and wield 1H sword w/ shields and bows. And since this is the Skyrim "branch" I opted for Nords, and since I am more likely to use a female follower, I didn't want them to be tied up in Blades' business, hence I chose only male recruits.
