Best Buy Backordered?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 9:31 am

So I pre-ordered FO:NV from Best Buy's web site and now they are telling me it is backordered. Isn't the point of pre-ordering to ensure there are enough copies of the game on release day?

Has anyone else had this problem? Was there a problem with the distribution of FO:NW or the pre-ordered versions?

Yes! I'm having precisely this problem, & I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little upset about it,
because now not only do I not have the game, I'm left wondering whether they're actually
going to restock, or I'm going to have to buy it for twice it's value on eBay or Amazon from
someone who bought X number of (seemingly too limited) copies specifically for that
purpose, but actually received theirs.

So I have to mirror Jimmy's question. Was there a problem with distribution? Because
I've never had a pre-order not be sent right away.

Well you'll be happy to learn that I walked into Best Buy last night and purchased a collectors edition with no pre-order. Thanks Best Buy!

The GameStop I went to looked like they were even a little dry on the regular edition of the game. I preordered mine 4 months ago. The sooner the better.

I preordered the Collectors Edition and went to pick it by noon yesterday. They couldn't find a single copy in all of the Dallas Ft. Worth area. They have no clue when they are getting more. I called corporate and they said that they didnt receive the quantity ordered. I'd love to hear from Bethesda on this.

I know they have them in the stores, but I live in a post-nuclear wasteland, many light years from.......anything.

Except Wal-Mart of course.

Oh...Well also in Best Buys defense, I had to drive to a ghetto part of Houston to pick it up. I guess G's don't play RPG's. >.<

As would I, though I'm not holding my breath.

If they do, they prob'ly order online. You know, to keep it on the low.

And I should clarify, I'm not blaming Best Buy, necessarily (especially after Jankee's comment). Just saying that's where I pre-ordered it.

I finally got through to Best Buy Corporate Customer Relations and spoke to a supervisor. This was some newsflash or whatever it's called that there is low stock for the CE. It didnt say what to do for the poor saps that thought that they actually had a copy reserved for them.

Cool, but I'm more concerned about the pre-order content. I pre-ordered specifically for the in-game content offered exclusively from Best Buy and now I'm worried that I'm going to (eventually) end up with a normal copy of the game that I could have just gone to any store to buy.

D'oh!

Well, I was really hoping that FO:NV wasn't going to be just another franchise-killer from Obsidian. They already ruined two titles from another company (NWN and KotOR) and they epic-failed on their own in-house title Alpha Protocol. Now it seems they can't even get their most recent product on the selves. Very disappointing and I hope Rob McGinnis is reading this thread right now.

Not this is of any help to this exact situation, however I had the EXACT same issue when pre-ordering Mafia II from Best Buy. Luckily they found a copy at another Best Buy not to far from where I live, however, I have vowed to never pre-order any CE's from Best Buy again. You never know if you'll get it or not. Best advice I can give is pre-order from Amazon. Chances are fairly good that you'll get your copy and on time.

I've learned my lesson. This is my third & final pre-order with Best Buy. I've had an issue with each one. This one sounds like the publisher didn't supply enough copies.

Looks like Gamestop has them in stock (for all platforms). Just ordered one & cancelled my Best Buy backorder. Fingers crossed.

I just checked my Best Buy order and the status changed from "Backordered" to "Status: 1 item(s) - Order in process of being fulfilled; Usually ships in 1 - 2 days."

Maybe I'll get it in time to play it this weekend. And I better get the preorder bonus.

The irony is that many people (myself included) pre-ordered the game for $5 just for the swag they gave away with it, with no intention of going back for the game itself, so in essence, they actually should have a SURPLUS of games!
