Best House? Best Wife?

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 5:30 am

Hey guys. I'm wanting to start a little bit of a family goin, so if you guys could help answer the above questions, that'd be great. House wise, Multiple ideas are cool, and I just want the most features I can get. Warrior based traits are definitely more important than mage related ones. Wife wise, I was thinking about doing Aela the Huntress so we could go on epic honeymoon-bandit raids! Any and all feedback would be awesome guys!

I had the best time living in the arch mage quarters after completing the mage college.
Has an alchemy table and enchanter and a lot of storage.
Only draw back is you can't have a wife LIVE with you there.
So bought a cheap house in Whiterun, might buy a house in Mararth, sounds like the best.
I just hate that city.

I know Aela is a favorite among warrior-esque wives, but out of all the women on the many characters I've made, I absolutely don't like being married to Aela. She's too quiet when following me for my taste, and she sometimes doesn't attack enemies who are attacking her. I prefer (personally) to have a wife who follows me, attacks on cue, and gives little snippets of information here and there, or commenting on the surroundings. It just makes it feel more realistic.

The two wives I had that I thoroughly enjoyed were Mjoll and the Dunmer chick from the college (whose name I can't remember) and (though she's a mage, and you said warrior is preferred). Both of them having loving attitudes towards you, and regularly comment on the surroundings. They don't have the looks of Aela, but I feel as if my experienced with them made it much more personal of a marriage

@JohnRexb that probably would be pretty cool, If i was a mage. And Yeah I'm not too fond of Markarth either :P

@PoeticMadness Now that you bring it up, I could actually see that being true. She doesn't seem like the fun wife type. Where can I find Mjoll again?

Are you wanting a spouse or a follower? Your spouse can be the "stay at home and make money type" and you can bring others with you as followers.

Personally I don't like Aela as she has a man face with paint on it (I think it's an inside joke at Bethesda to see people go gaga over her).

Mjoll is nice but she has her own follower that you may want to take care of.

For a follower I actually perfer someone in light armor (so they don't give me away when they sneak) and using a bow (so they can stay back out of the way). For this Jenassa or Annekke Crag-Jumper fit the bill. Jenassa you can marry.

All followers will use Light Armor if you upgrade it high enough. They choose what to wear based on the armor rating of the item. This is given their skill, so something that is 50 armor to you might only be 20 armor to them. Upgrade anything high enough and they put it on. I have Jordis sporting Forsworn and Aela in Leather.

Jenassa caps at 50 iirc. Annekke caps at 30.

I'm not a fan of Aela for a few reasons, one of which is that I don't like her attitude adjustment afterwards.

Uthgerd The Unbroken's a hardened warrior. I took her the first time and Aela the second time.

Mjoll is found in Riften, but she comes with a little lapdog Aerin that will pop up in your house every now and again. I honestly haven't had any bother with him, but there are quite a few who despise him xD You've also gotta do a quest to get her, so keep that in mind

So my wife can just sit at home, make cash, and I can come back to her and take the gold? Epicc. And it seems like we're running a similar build (sneak, archery) so I'll definitely check out these two out. Divines smile on you, sir!

The only issue I have with her is that you have to join the DB to get her. I haven't played a character that evil yet.

Take a wife that can buy and sell general merchandise and is not a follower. I have used Ysolda and Sylgja so far.
On PC the Whiterun house is ideal if you add the enchanting table mod. There are full forge facilities next door and several merchants with lots of gold nearby.

I haven't gotten married yet but I assume Camilla Valerius would be the best. She opens up her own store for you to use freely once you marry her, and she isn't bad looking either

Of course, if you want your wife to follow you then I'm sure Aela would be the best.

I like Dawnstar Sanctuary for my home base. My second is the Windhelm house, but then mine wasn't glitched.

As for a wife, I will say this, pick a wife you can bring with you as a follower that complements your play style, and marry as early as possible. The 100 g daily stipend is so useful at lower levels. A strong competent follower, that mysteriously generates 100 g per day for you is the best case scenario. The rest is glitz and glamour.

There's nothing wrong with Aerin that a dark night and a cold ditch wouldn't fix :)

Mjoll is my favorite. Two handed for Melee, archery for range, and uses block well. She can't die, she has a Scottish accent that sounds awesome when she says "....love...." or "...my love...". Her quest is fun, and was my first exposure to that type of boss, so double win for me. She uses her bow enough that you can use her to generate higher powered arrows by gleaning them off of the dead. She doesn't rush like Lydia, she doesn't constantly block like the shield users, she actually levels up to 50 or so, so she stays competitive for a long time, etc. etc. etc.

I have seen Aerin maybe twice. I "moved" Mjoll into my house in Whiterun, but use the house in Windhelm for storage and the Dawnstar Sanctuary as a home base, so I never see him unless I dismiss Mjoll, and have to retreive her. Even then, it's 50/50 if he will be there.

The best wife is Ysolda, she gives you money from her store! Talk to her and ask " Has the store made any money?" She will say " We have a little cozy profit, here is your share my love." the least amount of gold she gave me 200 gold, the most was 2200 gold!

Where is this store? In Riverwood? Or in one's own house?

there is no extra store if you tell them to stay at the bought house of your choice they will stay there all day and you can talk to them and they now have a selling option and a "how much money did the store make today" option. So all wives besides face and follower or merchant act the same. AS for best house it's subjective, but I kind dig the dweamer styled one in marketh.

This can be a problem, but she is very quiet when sneaking is required. My Aela is glitched, however. She only provides home-cooked meals while in dungeons (!) and I can ask about the store only if she's dismissed, and it's only ever 100g, no matter how many days pass. Wasn't always this way. Also, dismissing her means that the next time I take her out, she'll be using that crummy bow again. Perhaps it's just a graphical glitch, and she actually uses the legendary bow I gave her.

I have to admit she's surprising in combat situations. Long ago I obtained some sort of staff. I prefer my bow, thank you, so gave it to her, thinking I might sell it. I don't recall which one it was, but probably a frost type. Then i found a chain-lightning type and gave that to her. Imagine my surprise when I shot an arrow at a bandit and lightning and frost bolts were streaking by me! She loves to dual-wield staves.

Eventually she had a firebolt type, but continued to use the others. That is, until we came across a troll. Then she put away the frost staff for the fire staff and two-shotted the thing. After that, she put it away. If she only has one charged staff then she'll revert to her bow at range, but will use the staff in lieu of a shield in melee, especially the one that sprays a continuous flame. Very amusing for me to paralyze a draugr deathlord with my axe only to have her alternately stab and toast him, while taunting him with, "Is that all you've got?"

For me the BEST is that night elf on drunken huntsman. Archer, light or heavy armor, sword and shield and dual wield. She does not use two hand weapons well enough, but can dual wield and I heard she can use spells. Not sure if that's true.

But for a warrior, she's deadly. I dual wield with her. Best DPS ever.
