Best marriage candiate and the best follower?

Post » Wed Jul 11, 2012 10:04 pm

Right then i just want a general heads up on who you, the community think are the best followers to have in any situation and the best spouse to have sitting at home or following you around making you money?

Discuss.

Side note, unfortunatley Muiri is out of the question as i have already killed her Ex before doing the DB quest :(

Follower - Jenassa. Light armor and good at sneaking. Also the only dual welder. Lots of dialog also.

Wife - ??? Male or Female? Race? Throw me a bone here... If you just want one to stay home and mind the store then just pick whoever looks fine doing that. I really like Sylgja, but hate that she stays in her mining clothes and carries a pick axe (note I modded her in my game to fix this).

I like Serana, but she's bugged and you can't get the Lover's Comfort perk with her. :(

Female, race isnt a concern, but prefrably someone who looks nice, I agree i like Sylgja but her clothes and pick axe are a real annoyance.

I'm the kind of person who would only marry someone who would be a partner in adventure, so my spouse would have to be a follower.
For me it's Marcurio. He is a powerful mage who stays at range and will often run to cover. He never gets in my way, and is smart enough to use appropriate spells - like fire on trolls.
He'll negotiate terrain very well, and I've seen him jump down some large drops to follow me, and I've never had another follower do that - although I suspect it may be because he's a high level (40) and previous followers were a lower level.
He has never died, or even come close to it, because he has the Respite, Recovery, Regeneration and Magic Resistance perks. He uses spells for just about everything, and will heal himself with a Restoration spell rather than drink any potions or eat any food I leave in his inventory. (He eats Elsweyr Fondue for his Magicka). He has a high Sneak skill and has never exposed me - well he did once by coughing, but that was something freakish. His voice acting is excellent, and I like having him around.

She gives an impression of a skilled fighter, and is indeed so. Also, she's easily accessible (in Whiterun, hireable for 500 Septims).

I also thought that was something followers didn't do (I actually misplaced Marcurio once due to him not jumping after me) until I saw Vilkas do it, but he was over level 40 at the time (and had some Fortify this-and-that gear), so it might have something to do with it.

I like the idea of marrying someone who also can follow me, but I really can't give any advice to the OP on wives since I've only gotten married with one character, who married Vilkas. He grew tired of cooking after a couple of days, but apart from that, and being a little too quiet for my taste, he was nice to have with me, and a hell of a tank once accordingly levelled.

I'll keep an eye on this thread, though, since I've already is looking for a wife for my male mage. He would like someone with some education and class, preferably someone who can follow him as well. I'm thinking maybe Brelyna.

When it comes to followers in general, I've liked all hirelings I've tried since they're good at what they do, and all have their personalities with some dialogue. The exception is Belrand, who behaved like an idiot and got himself killed almost at once, but to be fair he never really got a chance to prove himself. Marcurio is my favorite hireling, if I must pick one.

Follower - Aela the huntress. A good enough archer that the hunting bow bug isn't much of a problem.
Spouse - No practical difference so whoever suits your character best; if you aren't particularly bothered about the lovers comfort bonus you can use the console to make anyone available.
