Well, on this forum, from what I've seen, Caravan and Classic are the dominating preffered packs.

I'm getting the classic, just because I've been playing Fallout for longer than I'd care to admit, but in the end it really isn't going to matter much at all. In fact, I'd say it won't matter very much at all past the first hour.

I think the Caravan pack looks the best..., but I'm not buying any of them, so my vote may not have much relevance

They didn't make my preferred bonus pack, which would have been akin to the "Ravaged" pack - including:

1. A baseball bat, someone degraded in quality.
2. Some rags covering my privates.

The fact that they are actually giving me a Gun seems over-powered, but then again I also wish that hardcoe Mode was worse that Fo3 FWE. :mohawk:

As long as it isnt Steam or Amazon, you can buy it in store, just say you're pre-ordering and be sure to ask if this will come with the pack the store is offering :)

Here's my take on the pre-order packs:

  • Classic - Decent staring pistol and armored vault suit. The Vault Canteen is probably the most useful exclusive if you are playing hardcoe mode. The 4 extra stimpacks will also come in handy.

  • Mercenary - I'm not sure what the starting stats are, but the the Light Metal armor sounds like it will have the best DT/DR of all the starting gear and the Grenade Launcher will probably have the best DPS, though you will probably be limited in grenade ammo early on. The Doctor Bags should come in handy for hardcoe mode since you can't limb-heal with stimpacks in hardcoe. The "Super Stimpacks" are also interesting.

  • Caravan - IMO the Light Leather armor is the best looking armor of the bunch. If I wind up getting this pack, I'll probably wear the light leather in towns for the look. The caravan shotgun is also decent starting gear, possibly more damage than the starting pistol, but easier to find ammo then the grenade launcher. The early binoculars, although not exclusive, will definitely come in handy early on for scouting the area ahead. The repair kits should help early on as well, especially if you find a decent weapon in bad repair.

  • Tribal - The weakest pre-order bundle IMO in terms of both function and theme, since the "Tribal Armor" doesn't look anything more than the Raider Blastmaster Armor of FO3, no color swap or change in texture or mesh, just the blastmaster armor with probably just a minor stat change. The exclusive broad machete is a bit more interesting, especially if you pan to start a melee character, and so are the throwing spears. It remains to be seen how much of an impact the "Bleak Venom" will have in combat, but hopefully it will indeed wind up being useful.

Here is a question. What if you pre-order the game from all of them. Will you be able to use them all in one game then?

Not saying I would but you know there are just some people out there who have too much money that it will not matter to them if they did this.

"If I pre-order from different locations, will I be able to access multiple pre-order digital packs within one game save?

Pre-Order items are given to customers once the game is picked up for purchase. If you have purchased the game at multiple retailers, yes, you’d be able to access any and all digital content within one game save.

Also be aware that the content will be delivered by way of a code. The code will only be redeemable once"

I dont see the point in it myself though. The games difficulty would plummet with all that starting gear.

Just go with the Tribal Pack. It's not overpowered (except maybe for Melée characters) and you get free shipping from Amazon. Plus $10 off your next game purchase.

Glad to be of help. I have some money down at Gamestop too. The Canteen put it over the top for me since I plan to play hardcoe. :)

I haven't gotten any specifics, but presumably it's a refillable water holder. It wouldn't be terribly useful if it was a one-time use item.

According to Gstaff, it's the only standalone canteen, the rest are built into certain types of armor: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1114712-stuff-i-found-at-pax/page__st__80__p__16362373__hl__pre-order%20canteen__fromsearch__1&#entry16362373

im going for walmart's caravan pack for the release day shipping (Which according to the site is free.) and the shotgun. I can live without references to older fallout titles

I think I'm gonna go with the Classic Pack. I was pretty torn, but reading this thread and spending some time comparing the overviews in the wiki link provided I think I've settled on it. I mean ideally I'd want all of them, but I think the Classic provides some nice bonuses, and I don't have to order online (I prefer to get physical copies and not have to wait for shipping whenever possible). The Best-Buy coasters were pretty tempting... then I realized they're just coasters. I narrowed it down to Best-Buy or GameStop, and settled on Gamestop because I've had pre-orders go horribly wrong at Best-Buy before.
