Best Performing Console Version?

Post » Sat Aug 06, 2011 7:12 am

Carmack said recently that Rage played on an Xbox 360 with no HDD wouldn't perform as well as other versions.

While this doesn't surprise me, I'm debating between purchasing for the PS3 or for Xbox. I'm leaning towards the PS3 (no disk changes), but I'm wondering if it'l be up to par with the 360 version (Installed on the HDD).

I ask because almost all PS3 games play off the disk. If this was the case, wouldn't the PS3 have the same performance issues?

I thought PS3 games had to be installed before you played them for the first time.

Yep , they are , dunno what the guy is pointing at since it would be silly waiting. Maybe people just don't know how to install ...

All i know that GT5 is way better if installed , now i only know about this game , because my bro picked up PS3 just because of killzone 3 and GT5 ... other than that , PC all the way.

Seems to me that most developers are good at making both versions (ps3 360) the same. You have all these comparison vids that you have to squint, pause and anolyze a thousand times to notice a minor texture difference so small, that you would never notice it while playing. As far as load times concerning installing or running from disc, meh. It doesn't bother me.

I'll be getting the ps3 version (one blu-ray) I would go PC, but I know my rig won't run it at max settings. I could probly go medium or high. But at that point, I may as well just get the console version that will look better than it would on my PC. Read, MY PC, not PC in general hehe. Everyone knows PC games look better. But that kinda goes back to my original statement. It might look better, but for me personally it's not so much a difference that Im gonna run out and upgrade. It's another one of those things where it's just personal preference.

A PC running RAGE at mid-high settings will look a lot better than the PS3 version at the same resolution (duh).

Previews say Xbox version has less texture pop-in and visual differences between PC and consoles are minimal.

Only some ps3 games do an install, when they do, it's usually small, like 1GB, and it's not optional. Also, you cannot opt to do an install of the entire game. MGS4 and GT5 are exceptions.

Nope. Although some games do a small install (around 1GB), most play off the disk.

who , where ?

ID probably didn't supply them the real deal on PC because they would cause leaks and spoil information such as install size and requirements.

Or maybe the previewer who got the PC version was just downright stupid.

Install size is something you could pretty much guess at. I mean, ID has said it needs something like 4 xbox disks, and it fits on one blu ray, so something in the neighborhood of 25-30GB.

I guess Im stupid too. "duh" I've never been a PC only gamer, but I do game on it. It's just not as worth it to me, as it use to be. Bottom line is this game will look fantastic across all platforms. Everyone has their own preferences on what they play it on. It's beyond stupid to argue about it.

I'm going with the ps3 version. I could go with any of the three, but I prefer my ps3, it's sweet as can be.
