You would want to try Hidden Valley and Red Rock Canyon.

DEDZ: I have to agree, sadly, the best melee weapons are not purchasable.

Bardon (at Hoover Dam, needs good NCR reputation + 50 speech check) sells very good melee weapons, including the Super Sledge, Shishkebab, Thermic Lance and Chainsaw. The Great Kahn armorer and Torres also sell some good stuff.

Knight Torres at Hidden Valley almost always has a Chainsaw and/or Thermic Lance. With Jury Rigging they can be fixed with Pool Cues.

Knock-Knock is still preferable, and fairly easy to get.

don't forget chopper at the wolfhorn ranch. level 0 one handed melee weapon. it's very good and it's located so you get it very early in the game. if you have dead money, i'm finding the cosmic knife super heated to be quite deadly. another level 0 one handed melee with bonus critical chance and bonus critical damage. i've combined that with finesse, better criticals, 10 luck, and boone's beret. it's a slaughter.
