I scrounged a few in general stores, but none in actual blacksmiths.


Any ideas?

Go south-east of Windhelm until you find Gloombound Mine, it's not too far away. I went there earlier today because I wanted to make my ebony set and got nearly 50 ore, or 25 ingots worth.

Definately Gloombound mine, the place is overstuffed with ebony ore. Ignore the npc's, they talk alot of smack but won't do anything, they also mine too; it won't actually deplete the ores but you will have to wait for them to move if they're picking on a chunk you want.

If somehow Gloombound isn't enough there are also 3 veins in the mine behind the town of shore's stone, that one's riddled with spiders though.

They also become far more common at all gear vendors a few levels after you start finding ebony gear out in the world.

Also adding to what Joose said, make sure you look in the buckets inside the mine and the carts outside of the mine, there are a couple pieces of ebony stored there. Make sure you don't get caught stealing them though.
