Best Skill Perks For Warrior Character ?

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 10:53 pm

I want to start a warrior character that will focus on archery and single handed weapons - either weapon and shield or dual weapons. Looking for some suggestions on what skill perks I should concentrate on acquiring because my first attempt at a warrior character just didn't work out, okay it svcks, and I want to avoid the same mistakes. For example spent lot of perks in armor but have realized while reading various posts that a more baanced development in enchanting and smithing would have been better. I am definitely a newbie so appreciate all suggestions.

Thanks in advance

I think Smithing, Enchanting and either Archery or One Handed would probably be the best to focus on. A must have is the perk that lets you put an extra enchantment on an item.

Go with sword and shield, blocking makes you pretty beast in later levels. And since you will be using both 1h and shield, you can dual wield at will later on. Otherwise, Smithing is also pretty important. Enchanting will pretty much level itself up if you make use of any enchanted weapons as you refill them with soul gems.

Being able to block is really important sometimes. With my nord I spent early perks on light armor and one-handed to keep a good balance between offense and defense and got after smithing and enchanting right away. Be careful about leveling smithing and enchanting too much too early, though. If you just mash out iron daggers to raise your smithing you'll leave town and get demolished by the first bandit leader you come across.

Your first 10 levels or so, just put all your perks into One-Handed, Armor (heavy or light, whichever you decide to go with), and Archery. I focused on my armor perks first to increase my armor rating at least once or twice before moving on the improving damage output. The perk that reduces stamina cost for power attacks in one-handed is definitely one of the best you can get early in the game.

I go with what ever your major weapon is first.
Block and either light or heavy armor second.
Perk those three skills when ever you can.
Then when you can't meet the skill levels to perk the ones
above start to perk your crafting skill, for a warrior that should be smithing, your crafting
skill is also important so don't forget it.

Lastely perk the other skills you will end up useing, such as Archery.
I don't like to perk or even use more than one crafting skill,as that
just doesn't seem right to me.

I'd say light armor, archery, dual wield, boost stam more significantly than health. Go up about 3 in the sneak skill, and maybe train until 40 where you get the archery sneaking perk. This character is a warrior, who can stealth, backstab, and can fit in with rogue-ish quests. Go up the smithing light armor tree. Fewer points to spend that way. To hell with enchanting.

If you want the game to fun and challenging at all, completely ignore Smithing, Enchanting, and Alchemy. I just started a new game with a melee character and not doing any of these has enhanced the game immensely. These skills really need to be fixed, there's absolutely no need for 900 damage bows.

Just put talents into what makes sense, it's not hard to figure out. I don't see how your first character didn't "work out", it's impossible to create a weak character in Skyrim.

Very true (@Enchant/Alc/Smithing). Although Smithing is fun for the diversity in gear and/or maintaining a piece you like. I only really like the look of some low level armors, so it's hard to resist not upgrading them. I'd rather loot or get quest weapons though.

Try to figure out how you want to play. I fight by spastically mashing the buttons so dual-wield works better for me than sword and board. I started with light armor, but was getting my ass handed to me so I quickly switched to heavy armor. I leveled my Smithing as quickly as I could and mined Ebony so I could make Ebony armor and swords. I favor Health slightly over Stamina, but I didn't ignore Stamina. Weapon perks make a huge difference - for example: with 92 1-Handed and all perks (except axe and mace) in the tree my Legendary Daedric dagger will do 77 whereas my Legendary Daedric 2-Handed sword does only 55 with my 2-Handed skill at 90 (no perks in 2-Handed) - yes, you read all those numbers correctly.

I'm working on Enchating ('bought' my way to 90 from Trainers  - sorry purists  ) now because I'm gonna' put Absorb Health and Absorb Stamina on the swords.

Edited to add "Legendary" to 2-Handed sword.

Well... yes, technically that's true.

But I hope you do realize that Enchanting is pretty much breaking the game at the moment. You can do perfectly fine and finish the game without ever touching Enchanting or using any enchanted items.

Another thing is, you can't make use of elemental fury with enchanted weapons. And that's a cool skill for a warrior. You don't have to use it, but since this game's unique selling point is Shouts, I'd suggest it. You're always going to get a chance to futz around with Enchanting in some RPGs, but not every game lets you play around with Shout type skills. Might as well make use of it.
