Best Television Shows

Post » Mon Jun 20, 2011 8:46 am

So what weekly programming do all of you on the forum keep up with? What's are your favorite shows? What's the best on the air, or being renewed for another season? Any kind, any channel, any language (well maybe). Feel free to discuss any cult shows you like as well, but try to keep things more to relevant and current programming. Post links if you can (Legal ones, like Hulu, or shows streaming from network websites).

I've fallen in love with http://www.nbc.com/community/. It has a perfect blend of pop culture, nerd humor, and good writing to make every episode feel interesting and fresh. I've never seen such fleshed out and well acted characters in a sitcom. IMO, this show has the potential to be the next Scrubs.

I don't watch much else other than http://www.thedailyshow.com/ and http://teamcoco.com/. Not having cable means my access to television is pretty limited, so I get by mostly by whats streamable online. I used to love watching the IT Crowd and Whitest Kids U Know, but I don't have access to them anymore.

As for cult television shows, I'm a huge fan of Mystery Science Theatre 3000 (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=mst3k&aq=f) and highly recommend it to anyone and everyone. I've also recently fallen in love with http://www.hulu.com/firefly. Absolutely great series, with such potential. Makes me angry that it was canceled after only one season...

So, what do you watch?

Well what are you looking forward to start airing again? I realize it's summer, so some shows are in between seasons, but I'm just curious what every keeps up with (or rather is looking forward to).

30 Rock and Mad Men... Proof that American TV is so much better when they stop trying to make "American TV" ie - following the same crappy formulae we've seen a billion times already and listening to those "network consultants" who ruin shows.

Usually most is cartoons: But.

Venture Brothers
Super jail
Robot Chicken - Stopped watching it for awhile and trying to pick back up.
Eureka
Myth Busters
Attack of the Show.
Xplay

Thought I would lik warehouse 13 but I don't care for the characters.

Some others I just watch irregularly.

Then I go read a book or something.

I'll rank my favorites.

  • Dexter-Amazing show,Micheal C. Hall is a phenomenal actor.
  • Game of Thrones-Just look at our threads dedicated to it.
  • Boardwalk Empire-1920's gangster,Martian Scorsese,Terrence Winter and Steve Buscemi.
  • Sons of Anarchy-Badassery at its best
  • Weeds-First 3 seasons where great but the show strays form its original purpose.
  • True Blood-First season was great, second was okay, third was decent and the next season looks to be okay.Just saw the preview and it looks terrible.
  • The Walking Dead-Nothing jaw dropping but if you like zombies it will satisfy your thirst.

I wish I could get MST3K, but it isn't on the air anymore here.

EDIT: I'm an idiot. I know it's not on the air anymore anywhere. Don't they do a new show though?

Yeah, I edited. :D I thought someone mentioned before that Joel or Mike was on a new show, though. Maybe I'm misremembering.

These are the ones that I keep up with and can't miss:

Community
Burn Notice
Psych
Game of Thrones
Boardwalk Empire
The Walking Dead
Deadliest Warrior

It's funny that you compared Community to Scrubs, as I've thought the same thing. If you've ever had a chance to see the actors off-set, then it's easy to see why they work so well on camera. They mesh so well together.

Sons of Anarchy - Just started watching it, and already finished all three seasons, can't wait for the fourth!
True Blood - Best TV/Movie vampires yet
Dexter
Weeds
Game of Thrones

There are more, but I can't seem to think of them at the moment. I've actually been trying to find new TV shows to watch, since I've ran out of ones to watch recently :P. I've been scouring Netflix instant stream, but haven't come across anything particularly interesting that I haven't already seen.

Dexter
Shameless(US)
Spartacus
Breaking Bad
True Blood
Merlin
Californication
South Park
Leverage
The Walking Dead

I want to see:
Louie
House
Mad Men
Camelot
Game of Thrones

Fringe looks like X-Files. As much as I like Joshua Jackson, after LOST, I don't think I can watch it. Super 8 has a vague ending too, so I heard. Investing so much for these shows over years and getting [censored, and more censored] is a bad feeling.
