BestWorst Daedric Quest (Potential Spoilers)

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 9:39 pm

Elder Scrolls games' Daedric quests are often some of the best. But I've noticed they can also be really disappointing. Thought it would be interesting to hear some opinions on Skyrim's best and worst Daedric Quest. Here's mine:

Best: Sanguine's quest. I honestly had no idea wtf was going on when I was doing this quest and my friend and I were hysterical going around and learning all of the crap that my character caused while blacked out. I also did NOT expect this to be a daedric quest (it was the first one I did).

Worst: Mephala's quest. I thought her quest was arguably one of the best of the Daedric quests in Oblivion but in Skyrim it felt like the developers last minute went "oh sh*t we forgot to make a quest for Mephala!!!". Boring and dry imo.

PS. Idk if there has been a thread on this already (probably) but I haven't seen one in a while so yeah :)

Move this to the spoilers threads. I haven't done barely any Deadeic quests myself

They are all too short.
Also, there are no repercussions if you fail to fill your end of the bargain, or if you become a champion for competing daedra. Example: my 2nd character completed both the Boethiah and Molog Bal quests - but how can he be a champion for both of them??? Also - I completed every single daedric quests, but use NONE of the items. Several of the quests involved confronting the previous daedric champion for his/her failure to show sufficient dedication - why is my 2nd character not experiencing the same dissatisfaction from the many and various daedra?

Best? Discerning The Transmundane . Worst, Vaermina's quest.

Best: erm. Can't decide between Sanguine or Sheogorath's. I think I may have to go with Sheogorath's though, just for Ann Marie and the narwhals and the entrails. Also the fact that it was my first Daedric quest in the game, and once I figured out what was going on and who I was about to chat up, I about clapped my hands in glee.

Worst: Mephala's, hands down. Guess the Webspinner had a hangover the day she came up with that plot. (Also she clearly wasn't thinking straight, since she just handed the Ebony Blade over to the nicest lady in Skyrim. Who promptly took said artifact, locked it up tight, and won't let it see the light of day again--as far as she's concerned, all she did was help out the Jarl's slightly mental kid by getting an evil artifact out of the building.)

Also - I completed every single daedric quests, but use NONE of the items. Several of the quests involved confronting the previous daedric champion for his/her failure to show sufficient dedication - why is my 2nd character not experiencing the same dissatisfaction from the many and various daedra?

Well, one could argue that you're not going to get immediate retribution for failing to show your dedication, unless you're doing it to a deity's face. The Daedra are busy folk, and Dovahkiin or not, potential champion or not, you're still a mortal with what is clearly an inflated sense of your own self worth. They'll deal with you when they have the time and the inclination.

The best, hard to say.
The best one is Merida's. Awesome quest, you feel good doing it, and she flies you high in the air.
Azuras is awesome. Always get Azuras Star.

Malog Bals is good. Hircines is good.
Most are good.

The one with the stupid dog, best thing is you get to massacre Barbas.

Sanquines is freaking stupid.
I only do that for the staff and get through it as fast as possible
All the others you are in control. That you are tricked into it, and that pisses me off.
I will not be messed about.

The worst is the moronic Nocturnal one. Freaking stupid!
Never doing that or the hideous TG quests ever, ever again. No fracking way.

A Night to Remember is my favorite, and it's also got my favorite reward. Others that I like for the rewards are Molag Bal, Azura & Peryite.

Sheogorath was fun the first time, but after doing it a few times I'm "meh" about it. I don't think I've ever used the Wabbajack except for the quest and on the crazy woman.

Dislike Namira, Boethia & Vaermina. I would like Clavicus Vile's quest better if Barbas was better at the whole leading me there thing, and if he didn't have to go with me to the other cave. I liked the story and their personalities, but Barbas just stinks at both leading and following.

Best: A Night to Remember
Worst: The Taste of Death/Boethiah's Calling (both for repugnant, required behavior) and The Whispering Door (for shortness/shallowness)

Best: Discerning the Transmundane. It's very involved and takes a long time to complete. You have to go to Blackreach and then collect blood samples from every type of 'mer. It's not a straight line mission. I wish there were more like that.

Worst: The Taste of Death. It's just so meh. Even the reward is crappy. That thing went straight into some chest with a bunch of other stuff I was going to sell in the event of some monetary emergency.

I'm pretty sure I just told Barbas to get lost at some point, and he did. Very early on. After that he just meets you at the next destination. I think the only place you are required to be in his presence is when you're at Vile's shrine, I certainly don't remember having him along when I fetched the axe, because I had Meeko with me then and TWO dogs I would remember. I dislike that quest anyway because it seems impossible to get into Falkreath or trade with the blacksmith there without getting it stuck in your journal. I still haven't figured out a way to clear it without actually fulfilling the Prince's request in some form, unless Barbas can be made mortal and killed.

I love A Night To Remember and it doesn't bother me that I was tricked into it, plenty of the other Daedric quests get stuffed down your throat by default just because you want to do something completely unrelated (see above), and the Sanguine one is harmless enough compared to many of the others. It doesn't require me to off anyone who wouldn't have been hostile to me anyway had I encountered them under other circumstances, and everyone I kill in that quest gets killed because they are attacking me when all I'm trying to do is make things right in the nicest way possible. It's not like I have to go make friends with someone and then slaughter them just for the lulz.

I agree that the Mephala one svcked, I only did it on one character who was doing most of the Daedric stuff because she was supposed to be a completely amoral Dunmer who had no problems doing what the Princes demanded. I got to the end of it and I was waiting for the next bit of it to pop up and then suddenly realized that was all there was to it and it was... nothing. I did it late game and even the reward was meaningless at that point.

Maybe that one was glitched for me, because the first time I did it, telling him to stop following me only made him sit for a second, then he was bumping into me again a few minutes later. I just assumed I was stuck with him, so the only other character that did that quest never bothered trying to get rid of him. The worst part was that I had to follow him to the cave the first time because the arrow was on him and I had NO IDEA where we were going. And he stops to rile up bandits, chase bears, anything that moves along the way. With the other character, I made sure to clear the path ahead of time and "discover" the cave to save myself A LOT of misery on the way there. :)

And it won't stay in a weapon rack. Or a weapon plaque. I even put it in a case and it was halfway across the room next time I saw it. Ticked me off because only one of my characters did ALL of the Daedric quests, and I had a really cool display going on with the mail on a mannequin, the weapons on racks, shield on the wall... And that stupid Ebony Blade would not stay put no matter what I did. At first I thought it was because it was in the Hideout, but I took it to one of my vanilla houses and it did the same thing. Finally it jumped into the void and vanished. I turned off clipping to check under the floor and behind the walls, but it wasn't there. Finally looked up the ID and summoned another with the console, and that one stayed put. Dealing with that stupid sword took twenty times as long as the quest.

(Wow. Who knew I was holding such pent up resentment for the Ebony Blade?)

Molag Bal's quest scared the crap out of me in that house when the light's would dim and items started shaking, not realizing it was a daedric quest until MB speaks to you. Probably the best for that reason.

I found Vaermina's (spelling?) quest to be boring and although Mephala's quest was bad, it was at least short. Vaermina just wasted my time.

I haven't done them all but A Night To Remember for the Sanguine Rose is my favorite. It's hilarious and the reward is awesome. Azura's Star is quite the challenge and I always do that one and the ones for Sheogorath and Meridia. I do Clavicus Vile just so I can make him take his annoying dog back; I don't care about the rewards and I do Vaermina so the skull will be destroyed. I don't do evil so those are the ones I haven't done. I don't do the Mehrunes Dagon one because it's better for the world to keep that weapon in pieces. I guess the worst would be the cannibal one and the sacrifice someone ones. :tes:

I do that one mainly so I can get Daedra Hearts on a semi-regular basis, but I don't use the dagger - it gets stored. You could always justify doing it by convincing yourself that it's safer in your hands as a 'hero' than the pieces are in weak NPCs' hands with all locations known by another weak NPC.

Edited for punctuation.

The reward isn't crappy, it fits a vampire playstyle perfectly. The stamina boost isn't short of the best items found (50 vs 70) plus you get increased health (as good as the stamina boost) and health regen when you feed, it's not crappy.

I did do the quest in an earlier game but didn't know about the respawning Daedra hearts then. I don't use many of those though; there's so much stuff in the game that I usually find everything I need somewhere - except for Boots of Muffle. :D As the years go on though, if I make a character that needs those respawning Daedra, I'll know exactly where to go, thanks. On the quests with evilish Daedra princes, I like to find ways to turn the tables on them in some way but it's not always possible. :tes:

If you're serious then remember to stay away from the cell where they spawn or it will bug out and they stop spawning there. Of course, the hearts are available from vendors, though.
