Bethesda Staff: Are you playing your game with mods?

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 4:49 pm

Just wondering if the creators of this console port are playing the game for PC with mods to enhance their experience, they would be rather silly to commit hundreds of hours to vanilla right?

Well they have said that they enjoy the mods.
EDIT: It could just be talk though.

It’s been absolutely fantastic hearing your stories, seeing early mods, and watching fan videos (more live music ones please, we love those).

I am sure they do. Many things they cannot do because of limitations sent forth from the company.

I am sure they look forward to what the players can do with mods that are not necessarily censored.

If they did not like mods, they would have removed any ability to use them. (I.E. not release the CK)

The Bethesda staff are well aware of and (in the past) appreciate the ingenuity of modders.

In fact, some of their ideas in Skyrim have come from Modder`s.

i`m also pretty sure that while some might go on a console (why?), most will be getting the best out of it on the PC with mods- maybe even THEIR own Mods they`ve made.

p.s.
Although, sometimes I wonder. when I finish a work I hate reading back over it and tend not to touch it for about a month. I wonder if staffers ignore their game for months before playing it?

Mods make "Skyrim" greater and more immersive and way more epic to play and etc.!

If you finish a work knowing that others will go over and "improve" it or change it, I think you would be more inclined to check it ,from time to time, just to see what is going on.

Well obviously, but I mean to actually sit down and play it for themselves, properly? Y`know like finally enjoying the car you made and driving it for yourself , for fun, not just making tweaks automatically because other people might want to drive it?

You miss my point and I can`t be bothered to explain further.

Why exactly would it be silly to play vanilla for hundreds of hours? Plenty of people do just that.

I dunno, I'd imagine some of them appreciate playing on a console more simply for the fact that it's not on something they work with for hours on end. :V

Anyone else think this would actually be kind of hard to do though, spend years working on something, then watch as its torn apart and rearranged by a bunch of outsiders?

I understand your point. After five years of coding and fixing it, I'd probably need a break too.

However, very very few employees work on a grand scale with the game- most employees are stuck for months working on one specific project, so in the end they may have only seen everything in skeletal form, or just as code. Those lucky guys and gals were probably counting down the days until they could see the entire thing unfold for them.

when the outsiders fix blantant issues with the game such as a UI no I don't think this would be hard to do and due to BGS's work from Skyrim and previous games I really do not think they care maybe a few do in the group and their ideas were trumped by the majority or just higher co workers but no there is no excuse for some parts of Skyrim and Oblivion and Fallout 3 for some of things they implemented in game.

What?!?!? I thought Todd and Pete programmed this from scratch by themselves on an XBOX 360 and ported it to PC.

If not, why is it so buggy and took 5 years?

J/k I love this game and the artwork is truly amazing. Thank you all at Bethesda (except the guy in charge of voice acting).

If you are so caught up on preserving something that you have been working on for years, why even release it to the public?

The designers have been through this before, they understand that others will be playing THEIR game, judging it, improving it, etc.

Like I said. IF they did not want others changing what they made, they would either: A.) Not allow them to. (not release CK) or b.) Not release it at all.

Torn apart and rearranged? What mods are you using? Outsiders? They know what happens when their game is released. It pays their salaries.

Get real.

Honesly I wouldnt be surprised if some established mod makers were actually Dev's who didn't get to add in a few things that they wanted. I mean, if you wanted to mod something, it makes sense that the person who made the game in the first place would be the most proficient at it.

Yikes, flamey. It's just food for thought. I know that when I release a mod, I get sort of territorial about letting others create derivative works. I know the devs are professionals and if they really disliked the idea they'd just go work for a different company, but they're still human.

My apologies for coming across as offensive, I just took your reply to my response as personal. I understand they are humans and of course, I wasn't saying they do not feel somewhat perturbed about their hard work being changed or erased.

I can say I would be hesitant about people editing my work as well, but when I realize that it is going to happen regardless of what I think or what I do, then I accept it.

It is kinda like going to work. You try your best and no matter what, SOMEONE always has input/criticism/advice/improvement etc. It is inevitable.

Yeah, wasn't trying to single you out or anything, just read your comment and it got me thinking.
