Beware of the goats!

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 6:42 pm

Two goats just attacked me. I don't know why but they attacked me. I didn't think goats would be hostile in this game. Anyone else experienced this?

Was they green with enchantment? Such animals are controlled by Spriggans. They can sometimes be controlled by Necromancers too.
According to Wikia, casting courage on a goat turns it hostile (??????)

No, they were not green with enchantment. It happened somewhere between the Shrine of Azura and Saarthal. I didn't do anything hostile, I just walked by them. The only thing that was somewhat near was an Ice Wraith but I doubt that has anything to do with it.

I have experienced(just a handful of times) a non-hostile animal(like a goat) turn hostile after being attacked by a hostile animal(like a wolf), but like I said, I've only seen this happen a handful of times

Something like that happened to me too. though I think it was Elk and not Deer.

I think it's because they were in the area when my character (or Barbas actually) was attacking an enemy.

My guess is that if you issue attacks in their vicinity normally non hostile animals seem to think you're trying to attack them and then they turn hostile.

The strange thing is that we didn't attack anything. We were just taking a stroll to Windhelm. Maybe some NPC's had a battle and I just didn't see it...

They sure look mean, yeah: http://fallout.neoseeker.com/w/i/fallout/4/44/GOAT.jpg

Never happened to me though. That'd scare the sense out of me. :o

Like a rudimentary fight or flight response, I have seen it but the other way round. A bear attacking an Elk, and when I came close to the Elk after saving it from the bear it turned on me, I've also seen deer do this as well.

I had a fox attack me once. It was weird, as I approached a cave, I saw two foxes run past me going the opposite direction. That was weird as foxes almost always scamper along with me. Well, a minute later, I get attacked by one of the foxes that ran by me. After I killed that one, I found the other fox dead back along the road.

So, I just put it down to Rabies and went on my way.

I had this happen too. It was funny to watch the Dremora Lord chasing the goat down the road and asking if it was prepared for its death. :tes:

I had something similar happen there (near Saarthal by one of the rock piles) as well, but it was an animal mengerie attack - bears, foxes, sabrecats, oh my! However, it was because of Spriggans. There were two of them and they had just finished off some bandits. I thought it odd that Spriggans would be in that snowy area.

A question about animals. If I use Kyne's peace will it stopp spriggan controlled animals? Or If I use animal alliegance will it turn the animals hostile to the spriggan?

According to Wikia, casting courage on a goat turns it hostile (??????)

Not exactly... According to Detect Life, they're hostile to start with (they show up as red, not blue). They just have extremely low Confidence, so they flee. Casting Courage on them raises their Confidence to the point where they can choose to fight instead.

Thanks to this info, I use it to livein things up while traveling and train illusion and blocking. I see a goat, cast courage, and then block its attacks until the spell wears off. Once near Ivasrstead the goat got a little too courageous and attacked a troll. The troll got his goat.

These are good questions. I will try Kyne's Peace when I next play the character who has it. I will go to the spriggan lair near Riften to try it. I do not have a Bosmer character so I can't try animal allegance.
