Beyond the Beef - quest still crashes 1.3

Quest: Beyond the Beef

Primary Problem: I'm trying to meet Chauncey in the Ultra-Luxe Steamroom @ 4pm game time per the mission requirements. I'm there an hour early. If I advance the clock to 4pm I see Chauncey enter the room, after which the game immediately crashes. No exceptions.

Secondary Problem: This happened before the 1.3 patch (04/25/11) and was not addressed by the stability updates. Apparently crashes in this part of the game are so well known that they're part of fan documentation (see http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Beyond_the_Beef -- "Note: Quicksave often, the steam room area is prone to make the game crash at any moment, even if you are standing still in the middle of the room alone. Is better to enter the room only at or a little after 4PM").

I'm sorry to see this bug wasn't worked on, given that it's prevelant enough to have been written up on fan sites.

Really, that still isn't fixed? I haven't had a chance to play it since the new patch came out. I quit playing after the previous patch because it broke Boone. I figured that bug was such a big mistake they would release a quick fix for it, but I was wrong. I've read that Boone still isn't fixed too.

There has been a fix at the NV Nexus for a long time, why can't the developers fix it? Here's the fix: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37351

I'm going to wait a few days for the http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=38326 to update. I'm guessing it won't take long since it looks like Beth/Obsidian didn't bother fixing any bugs.

Thank you very much for that link to the Ultra-Lux mod fix - I didn't know that was out there. Works like a charm. I'll keep my eyes open for that community patch, too.

I guess Bethesda can't afford to spare people to work on the long part of a product's life-cycle that comes after "release" on the calendar. Kind of sad - I remember when they were really a name to be trusted in the dev community.

At least the fans care enough to fix their broken products. :)
