Beyond The Mountains Of Madness?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 2:37 am

Hi guys,I've read somewhere on the internet about a sequal called Beyond the mountains of madness. However, I can't figure out if this will become a real sequal, or if it was just a plan. Does anyone know anything about this? Or is this just another story inside the Cthulhu mythology? I REALLY hope there will be a sequal.Regards, CJ

Allright, thanks esepablo,I think that was the reason why I couldn't find much on the internet about it.Do you think there might be a chance that another production company will pick it up? Or will DcotE be the last game in the CallofCthulhu series.Oh, and to Dp24014: There's a short trailer of the game on youtube.. It does not reveal a lot about the game though..

To put it simply, we were working on two more games when the company went bankrupt, so we won't be finishing them, the only way there could be a sequel is if another company buys the rights, and they would probably prefer to do an original one rather than a sequel so the chances are highly unlikely.the one was an actual sequel, 'beneath the mountains of madness' and the other was also set in the same franchise, but wasn't a sequel per se, and was supposed to be for the PS2, 'Destinys end'. Alas no-one will ever see these games :(

While I can't say for certain about a game, there was a book written by Lovecraft called "At the Mountains of Madness" which maybe is similar. It is about a science expedition to Antarctica that uncovers a ancient city built by the old ones. It is one of my favorite works of his.

There's some talk of making that novella in to a movie in which case there will no doubt be a movie tie-in . . . but then movie tie-ins have something of a bad reputation.

I just finished reading At The Mountains of Madness... if someone were to do a game, it'd have to be incredible (to the point of being the most immersive and captivating game ever released) to come close to putting across the atomosphere and general feel of that short story. Can't think of a dev who'd be up to the job!

I really wish a sequel was released myself XD Dcote was one of my favorite games bethesda has released, and i would love to see another lovecraftian game ^^ however alot of people seem to forget there were many more creatures besides the deep ones :/ although they were interesting, i would like to see another lovecraft based game based off one of the other stories, i mean Jack was awesome, but there are soo many investigators i would like to see the stories of besides just him :/ besides...if you beat the game and got the true ending you would know why he cant make an appearance in another game XD

Sigh... Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners was one of if not the greatest game I have ever played. It was so atmospheric and really immersed you in the world of Innsmouth. Beyond the Mountains of madness wasn't going to be a direct sequel per-se, but rather a continuation of the Cthulhu Mythos. But since Headfirst went bankrupt, the only way any of these games to be released is if a new developer picked them up and finished them. Unfortunately, I don't think that is ever going to happen.

Yes, its sad there won't be BtMoM the computer game, especially given Guilliame del Toro and James Cameron are/were trying to get a movie off the ground (based on the original AtMoM story).

If its any consolation, and if any of you are pen & paper gamers, there is "Beyond the mountains of madness" the campaign for Chaosiums Call of Cthulhu RPG, which is excellent.
(they also produced the book/supplement that the plot of Dark Corners was loosely based on).

Guillermo del Toro's movie was axed by Universal a few days ago. Del Toro had said himself that getting an R rated action film like this approved would be difficult and Universal appears to be betting on PG-13 movies instead (such as the PG-13 3D Doom remake they just announced).
