Big detail that kept bringing me out of my roleplaying last

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 5:01 am

Walking in the snow produces absolutely no footprints. When walking in what supposed to be deep powder, not only are you right on top of the snow, like its solid ground, but you dont even leave footprints. While hiking with fellow imperials last night, It kept bringing me out of the game, especially when NPCs are on top of a snow mound and its coming off like its made of hard plastic.

For a game focused on mountains and snow, you think these things would have been done better. Hopefully we get a patch that improves overall detail in the game from beth.

Didn't notice, honestly.

...and I doubt they're going to patch in a "snow surface deformation" system, if they didn't make one in the first place.

Yeah, this is not really up there on my top 10 list of most immersion breaking things in Skyrim. That is not to say that it wouldn't be cool if it were there. Just not gona fault Beth too much for not including it...there are better and more important things to spend time on

I have to say that I browse around this forum every couple of days, and read complaints and read about how people think such-and-such minute detail should have been included and I always end up thinking to myself, "Man, self, I don't care about any of this."

I just wish I could give people my fun. I have so much of it and it seems like others have so little.

Really? Its a video game. Like the game doesn't have enough to track and process you want it to create foot prints. Lets try and keep things in perspective here.

it is possible to have an icy crust on top of a layer of snow that's thick enough to walk on, but yeah, it bothers me too, heck even the mammoths don't leave footprints.

It doesn't bother me that there are no footprints. What does bother me is that they are more than possible (dragon words being etched into snow in real time) in the game as it is, but the developers, for some reason, decided against them. I'm not sure what reasoning--if any--they provided.

I live in Utah (where we have "the greatest snow on earth") and I didn't even notice that.
Thanks alot, now this game has been completely ruined for me... wait... nevermind.

I doubt they will add it in a patch, but after going to the snowy north for the first time in my game this was the first thing I noticed, not a huge deal but many older games seem to do it without much issue, would have been a nice touch

Beth isn't competent enough to actually add small details that Morrowind and Oblivion had that Skyrim doesn't. I'm not talking about foot prints, just small details on the side

I agree with this, but I'd also say that footprints in snow would be cool, and if at some point someone managed to mod them in, that would be awesome.

The footprints thing matters little to me as far as graphical anomalies, but the fact that it snows inside buildings is... baffling. Other games have weather effects (open buildings tents, and the like), and when you go inside the weather stays out. I guess Bethesda's guys aren't as talented as the guys who made the Witcher 2's graphics engine.

I absolutely LOVE this response!

And I agree. Why am I having sooo much fun while others keep making threads like this one. Like world is cruel or something.
