Bind a combination of weaponsmagics

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 12:46 pm

Hello everyone,

I bought the game few days ago, and I was wondering something : Is it possible to bind any combination of weapons or magics (i.e only one key for the combination) ?
For example, if I wanted to throw a fireball with two hands (Let's say, the bind is on 3), before going melee with two weapons (Bind on 1) to kill what remains of ennemies and then heal myself (Bind on 2) with cure on the right hand while keeping a shield in the left hand, I would do :

- First "3", "Both right and left click" to cast the fireball with two hands
- Then "1" and I would attack with both my weapons
- Finally "2", right click to heal myself or left click to block ennemies attacks (if one or two survived...)

Or if not, is it simply possible to bind an item to the left hand ? For example, if I'm holding a bow, and would like to take "Sword" (Bind on 1) in my right hand and "Axe" (Bind on 2) in my left hand,
then "1" "2" would equip them as I wish.

Thank you for your answers !

PS : Please excuse my English, I'm French actually :P

Sorry, man. It can't be done. You can't hotkey a weapon set or specify a hand for a weapon/spell. It's really, really frustrating but that's how it is...

I see :/

I don't understand why this kind of fundamental thing is missing in such a game, this ruins a big part of the gameplay, and completely handicap players who'd like to play with combos of weapons or magics.

Is Bethesda going to do something about this ?

Or is there at least a mod which allow a player to bind the way he wants ?

If your on PC i use the categorized favorites menu mod and it lets me do stuff like that with the script extender. It a pretty great mod that everyone on PC should check out. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=4862

I personally don't use the script extender so I can't bind a certain set up because that feature requires the script extender. That said the mod makes binding setups unnecessary because the new favorites menu is so large its easy to just pick what you want quickly. So don't feel like you need the script extender to make this mod worth while (I actually prefer it without it).

I don't understand it either. Bethesda has been silent on the issue so there's no reason to hope for a fix. There are no mods that address the issue directly. A few, like the one cromwest linked, offer a round about solution. None of them are very satisfactory in my experience.

I even raised the issue on the mods forum in the hope that someone would take up the challenge. I was very disappointed by how little response I received. It seems that many Skyrim players use a controller. Since controllers allow only two hotkeys, these people never encounter the problem. Personally, I hate going into the "favorites" menu for weapons during combat. I really, really wish this issue could be fixed but I'm not holding my breath.

the hotkey system is absolutely brutal for console players, and ps3 gets a bonus here again that they often just don't work at all.

I can't imagine that in a building full of programmers who are likely familiar with tools like emacs, vim, and many IDE where custom keybindings are integral to good workflow they don't understand how much more helpful proper hotkey bindings would be in skyrim.
