Bizarre flickering after installing catalyst 12.3 and CAP 12

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 4:18 am

On my Khajiit's face and when in the esc menu I get flickering:

Anyone else seeing this? I did a full reinstall of the drivers and it hasn't helped.

specs in the sig, I've dropped all of the over clocks to make sure it's nothing to do with that.

Bump

reinstalled drivers updated to CAP 12.3, still happening.

Only happens in crossfire, so I disabled it, now the game fails to load at all

"Skyrim has stopped working" right after I click play.

WORGLOVS!!!!! One of my two mods!!! I have just installed 12.3 but I run single card def seems to be about the same for me. Might want to rollback for dual card or disable crossfire for Skryim. I assume a CAP profile is in the works but who knows when it will come. A single 6970 should be fine for single monitor for the time being...I know it isn't optimal but give it a shot if not stop back any lover of glaives is a friend of mine.

Running AA and AF through CCC or Skyrim?

Roll back did not resolve the issue. I believe it has to do with the latest patch to the game.

I even tried to reseat the cards and cross fire cable, and switched between the two cards with cf disabled. It's pooched.

I am running aa and af through ccc. And it's too bad because performance seems to have otherwise improved dramatically

I believe that your belief is indeed most likely correct wish I had an older ATI card to test out.

For me it's intolerable. Driving me nuts because I've been able to Max everything else, I even have aa set to 8, super sample, and on edge detect for an effective 24x sample. apart from the flickr on my characters face, the flicker and a weird stutter I get outside of markarth, it's smooth as silk

I take it you tried disabling AA and it still occurs....

I have no idea how you run 8x AA with supersampling using edge detect on a pair of 6870's with only 1Gb of usable vram, That in itself is more likely to be the cause of your issues rather than the well known fact that Skyrim does not like crossfire.
The 12.3's do seem to have a problem with different kinds of AA though, I am unable to use adaptive AA due to flickering.

Adaptive never really worked great in Skyrim for me either....try MSAA or SSAA if you can.
Personally on 2GB 6970 I run 4x SSAA standard morph off 16 AF 4096 shadows @ 8000.0000 in a FOV 70 ugrid7 everything cranked and that gives my card quite a workout.

I keep my shadows at 2048, 4096 just wrecks my fps.

even with all settings disabled in crossfire it still gives the issue, with crossfire disabled, it's fine.

So AA was part of my problem, it was causing high vram usage outside of markarth which made it slightly choppy, that problem is now gone.

flickering remains with crossfire enabled, disabling crossfire causes the game to sometimes not load, I'm investigating that now.

Gotcha well just a tip 4x SSAA even on standard(no morph no edge) looks damn pretty even MSAA in regards to a vanilla Skyrim.
In regards to the single GPU issue.....might have something to do with the autodetect(which is a piece of garbage) that works with the launcher(another piece of garbage). The launcher and its facets seem to attempt to have a minds of their own.....sadly I would equate the intelligence of the launcher to the AI in the previous Hitman games but I digress :P
