Black Texture Issues

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 8:56 pm

Alright I am tired of this issue.

I have a problem where any texture that is over 1024x1024 in any way can randomly turn black in game and causes me to crash, its not the textures fault I have it happen with my own textures as well.
I am currently up to date on patches (I am NOT useing the beta test patch), I have windows XP (because I have no money to buy anything new right now thank you very much) and I can run the game on all max settings and get around 60 FPS indoors and 50 FPS in cities and 40-60 FPS outdoors.

I know XP has a cap on RAM, but I can not image that is the problem with 2048x2048 textures turning black and crashing me?

I am tired of scaleing all my nice high quality fur retextures back to 1024X1024, so any help would be great...

Oh and the 4GB patch that was on nexus DID work, but its no longer up for download or up to date.

Any tweaks being used, ini. Or mods?

Curious.

Not the best computer but it works, I was useing it to play Fallout New Vegas and never updated to windows 7 because I have run into money trouble...

Specs:
Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition
Processor: Intel? Core?2 Duo CPU E8500 @ 3.16GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 3326MB RAM
Videocard: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260
Sound: ASUS Xonar DG Audio (crap, but it works)
BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG

Mods, yes I run them but I did tests before hand on fresh install with just my custom Argonian textures that are 2048x2048 and even in vanilla they would eventually turn black.
ini tweaks to shadows to fix them, other wise they eat up waaaay to many fps and look like crap. I tried without the ini tweaks first.
I can live with the crashes for the most part... but all I want is to have some textures at just 2048 nothing larger really needed. It worked so well in Morrowind/Oblivion/FO3/FNV with larger textures then that.
ToT why you hate me skyrim?

Any suggestions at all? Other then haveing to roll back to no older patches where the 4GB patch worked, which would be just sad that I can not play with the updates.

I've only had this happen twice, both times the textures responsible were over 4k. I only use 2k textures now and that works for me.

Black textures happen when you are out of ram most of the time. Upgrade to a 64 bit os or just stick to using 1k textures. If its affecting vanilla textures too then something is wrong...

Jeez so a single 2048 texture can run me out of RAM?

That really just doesnt seem right... :\

This has to be the single most unoptimized game I have ever played, and I have played alot of high end games on this computer and never had any issues.
