Block perk tree for 2 handed

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 7:33 am

On my current plauthrough i decided to do something I've never tried in previous TES games and that's play a pure warrior. It's been great so far.

Decided early on (in helgen keep) to focus on 2 handed and heavy armour mainly.

My question is are any of the perks in block worth getting for 2 handed specials or are they mainly geared towards those who use a shield?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Most are for shields but I think the 20% bonuses are for all blocking. I could be wrong. I plan on playing a 2 handed too so I would also like to know.

The right side up to deadly bash works for 2H as does quick reflexes. In fact, power/deadly bashes do more damage with a 2H than with a shield.

Sounds good and I'm glad that it is that way.

Hey Red Army (aka Theon by your avatar) - which race did you choose? I'm curious as I'm thinking about doing something similar, although I'm likely to have a bit of archery and sword/shield action in there too. Basically, I'm down to Nord or Orc, but I cannot choose. Heck, I'm even considering Dunmer, although that'd be more sword/shield then 2hander..

Suffice to say, I think a pure warrior would be fun. No spells except scrolls and if he choses to use a staff or potion or something.

Im having a great time currently playing as a pure warrior Nord with two-hand. Block is harder to level without using a shield, but heavy armor and two hand seems to increase at a good pace. My second choice for race would have been an Orc. Its racial power really complements a two handed play style.

They apply, except for the specific shield ones, such as the resistances.

Make sure you have plenty of stamina though.

I chose the avatar because Theon Greyjoy is my favourit characte from "A Song of Ice and Fire" plus my first skyrim character was called
Theon.

Anyway back on topic...i went for a nord...again because it was a race i'd never played before. Toyed with the idea of an orc too but prefer playing human characters.

I'm avoiding using archery and all magic, other than shouts, no scrolls, no staffs and yeah it's been great fun so far. Working my way through companions quest, doing bounty quests for the whiterun jarl and currently on way to windhelm to join the stormcloaks.

Oh yeah and my new guy is called Sandor, maybe i should change my avatar to this... http://www.deviantart.com/download/217469025/sandor_clegane_by_themico-d3lh469.jpg

see, if you choose that avatar, I'd say you go Orc... even though Sandor is clearly a Nord... Hmmm... how about the Mountain that Rides? Nord/Orc crossbred?

Anyway, thanks. Yeah, I'm enjoying my khajiit nightblade, but I'm also thinking I'm going to want a bit more "tankish" type play.. 2 handed and heavy armor is the name of that game. I could ditch the scrolls and staffs... I love archery though, not sure if I could ever let it go... hmm, maybe orcish scout - archery, one handed, shield and heavy armor - it's one step away from the 2 handed stuff... I'm going to have to think on this one...

In any case, I dig it! And can't wait for season 2 on HBO!

I have a heavy armor,2 handed Orc right now and can say that the berserker rage is just plain awesome.
I killed a frost troll at level 6 with it.
Yes block levels slow without a shield but it does help.

This. ^

Berserker Rage is a really useful thing when encountering packs of enemies, or dispatching that one powerful uber-enemy you just can't seem to get the better of.
Besides, what is cooler than a huge, frenzied Orc in heavy armour, bringing a massive two-handed weapon to your enemy's skull? B) To me, an Orc warrior is the ultimate badass melee character, like a boss. Take one look at the unarmoured, dual-axe-wielding Orc covered in blood you occationally see in the loading screens, and that ought to tip you in the greenskin direction...
