Blocking for 2H warriors?

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 10:09 pm

I was wondering whether I should invest perks into blocking for my 2H warrior just to make sure that I don't waste any valuable perk points. Also, any tips on which perks to pick if I should invest in blocking would be greatly appreciated.

Blocking is one of the few skills where any investment of perks is a good investment. Remember, you can block with two handed weapons, just not as effectively as if you used a shield.

Just stick to the right side of the tree.

edit: I'm not even sure I should recommend that. Just the main blocking perk is good enough when it comes down to it. The animation for bashing is a little wacky, compared to shields. And it's not all that necessary for a 2hander, ime. Useful sometimes, but you're better off killing, not bashing.

So does that mean I should only invest into the absolute basic perks for blocking in this case? And instead just focus on levelling it up?

Shield Wall and Quick Reflexes are two perks I go for when I use 2H.
I personally don't bash when using 2H (and have never used a shield), so I can't say if perks on right side are any good (or any other perks for that matter).

Some of the perks are good to have (the right side of the tree, as said). And bashing with a 2-hander is a good strategy, if you can time it properly. You interupt regular and power attacks.

I just wish there were a way to increase the attack speed of 2-handed weapons, swords especially (not counting the elemental fury shout).

I went up the right side to disarming bash (also got quick reflexes) and to me it was perks well spent. It adds some variety to 2H combat to be able to disarm enemies with powerful weapons. If you enchant something with +block you can actually be at the blocking cap with just one perk in shield wall too. Without blocking, you just power attack until you win, with effective blocking/bashing it adds some tactics to fighting which enhance gameplay a lot IMO.

Definitely grab Quick Reflexes - it's a game-changer for 2-handers. Instead of just sponging those power attacks, or trying to dodge (which I can never manage), you slow down time and can just dance around the bad guy, then slam him with your own power attack.

I usually only get the first rank of Shield Wall; seems to be diminishing returns after that. I also have not explored the right side of the Block tree, because I usually don't play to a very high level and I want to spend perks on other things, like the 2-handed or smithing trees. I've avoided bashes because they drain precious stamina, and with Quick Reflexes you can just avoid all the most damaging hits anyway. But I could be missing out.

Quick reflexes is one of, if not THE single best perk for a warrior (if you have the ability to block, of course) in my opinion.

In a 1v1 fight, it allows you to basically never get hit with a power attack.

My main problem with the power bashes is that I care barely tell the difference with a regular bash. The animation is the same. I think.

Alright thanks, good thing I saved up those perks. I'm gonna try and get quick reflexes as soon as possible.
