So I went to Windhelm and got this house for 12000 and when I went in it started blood on the ice quest, I went on youtube and saw that people are talking on to guards on cemetery but when I go there there is none it just says follow butcher's clues in my journal. HELP!!!

talk to woman in death hall (or how it is called)... if no option go to the house look around find clue in the chest.
then go to the npc again. that woman. then follow her back to the home.... and follow the q again.

can't talk to her and I've found butcher's journal in the chest near the front door

You are already missed up. I know cause I did the same. If you continue the quest you will just end up with an un-killable murderer living in your house, which basically makes it unusable.

Just save your money and get another house.

I'm sure this quest is on the 'data patch' list that is supposed to come out in January.

yep. youre lucky though. at least you can get the damned quest.........arg!!!!!!! the only house i want i cant buy...

I had the same happen, but I was able to complete the quest. Try the following:

- In your new house, pick up a "Beware the Butcher" flier, the Strange Amulet and both Journals (one is in a secret room).
- Talk to a guard.
- Talk to Viola.
- Talk to Calixto, sell the Strange Amulet.
- Talk to the Court Wizard (Wuuf-something the Unliving) NOT the stewart you bought the house from.
- Patrol the stone quarter, kill the killer.
- Talk to the stewart.

Once you can upgrade your house, be sure to buy the "Clean up the mess"-upgrade first, or the blood and gore will not be removed.


Pickpocket the Key to Hjerim from Tova Shatter-Shield, enter Hjerim and try to continue as described above.
That may kickstart the Blood on the Ice quest
