This quest was shaping up to be a really nicely done quest...til I finished it and was like WHAT?.
You don't even get to fight the court wizard. You just investigate the empty house, follow clues, talk to the steward and you're done -.-. Built up so well, and then just...
:/.
Kinda like the College of Winterhold questline, but at least you get a crack at Acano.
That's because the wizard isn't guilty. Have you
actually finished the quest yet and put the correct person in jail (Calixo)? If you haven't, after a few days, people will start getting murdered again. The quest does not finish until you catch Calixo in the act and kill him.
A side note: You don't have to send the wizard to jail at all. You can talk to him before you go to the steward and the wizard will tell you that Calixo is actually behind the murders.
Also, the Mage's College ending really, really svcked. I just wanted to kill Acano from the beginning. It's obvious from the get go that he's the bad guy. Doing the ending quest again is painful. I don't even want to go get the staff; I just want to kill Acano while he's sitting there staring at the orb before he starts trying to use the power from it. There really should be an alternate way to complete this quest.
