Somebody probably left their backpack lying by a trashcan. Security officers tend to freak out over that sort of thing.

Now that that's out of my system: I hope this wasn't a real threat type thingy, otherwise security may be a bit stiffer when I'm there at the end of the month :(

The unattended bag theory sounds the most likely in lieu of an actual threat (well, assuming there wasn't an actual threat) and I've witnessed that sort of thing causing an inconvenience on more than one occasion. Well not the bag, of course, that just sits there minding its own business, but excitable security staff can often get excitable.
