Books, books, and lore books...

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 12:09 am

I personally love the lore of TES. I have compiled a list of all the books ive aquired so far on my journey. I keep it alphabetized in my iphone's notepad. I do the same for weapons and apparel. Lol. I just gotta have a set of every armor, clothing, weapons... Idk... It cant be just me, can it? In my whiterun home (only one i have so far actually), practically every chest, dresser, end table, and sack is filled to the brim with stuff from my adventures. (You know the small sack above the bookshelf next to the fire pit? Thats my skooma stash. Shhh... Its a secret..) Im pretty sure the only things i havent used for storage is the barrel under the stairs, and the stuff in lydia's room. (i dont like to snoop... Although she doesnt seem to have a problem with spending every waking moment in my room... Eating bread and cheese and attracting ants with the crumbs... Grrr...

Anyway, just thought i'd list what i have so far...

Whenever i find new books, i usually cross-reference and then either add to the collection or sell em...(ever since i started to college of winterhold quests, ive been religiously selling all my extra books to the dude in the arcaneum)

And this list isnt even including the journals, bountys, assasination contracts(DB & Thalmor), letters, notes, fliers, etc... (those i keep in my bedroom end table, incase i want to reflect on those adventures... Or misadventures). The newest additions to those are the journals from frostflow lighthouse... Sad, that was... But i avenged them, and got an awesome permenant active spell. Sweet...

Sooo, anyone else do this? Make lists and things?

I have spreadsheets for toons (this game, WoW, DF, MW, OB....) with levels, stats, how much gold etc. But I don't bother with books etc. I just sell 'em all once I've learned whatever....

I always collect books for later reading in a tavern or at home. I put books on the bookshelf, except for those rare, exceptional books which I either hide in the nightstand or in my chest. With loose letters and notes, I generally categorize those in respective chests or drawers.

I just wish we had the ability to write in books so we could create adventures of our own, then extract them from the game, and upload them into the TES community. That would be fun!

In-game that would be awesome. But there is a couple of sick apps for this game on iphone. Theres one called mapz or something that lets you add notes to locations and such.. I think you can even upload said notes for others to see...

For example, i wrote this note for windhelm:

Windhelm is a relatively small town. When i first visited the icy streets of Windhelm, i was greeted with a dose of racism almost as cold as the chilling breath of a frost dragon. These Nords dont seen to take too kindly to the elves in this town. They dont seem to want then in Skyrim at all for that matter. Shortly after that encounter, i stumbled upon a gruesome murder scene. I offered my help in the investigation and the Jarl's steward gladly accepted. I ended up practically single-handedly solving the case of The Butcher.

And this:

Journeyman's nook:

Treasure map II is located here in a knapsack.
This is also where the body and dagger of Borvir was found. Aparently Borvir was felled by a bandit plunderer. I made quick work of that murderous fool. Rest in peace Borvir.

P.s. Sorry i took your robes.

Anyway... Its pretty cool...

Nice list you have there! :)

Whenever I play a TES game, I always make it a point to collect every single book so that way I can read them whenever I want.
I also like to learn about the world in the game and the best way to do that ,in my opinion, is to read the books.
Plus the stories are fascinating.Especially Mystery of Talara v.1-5.

We should be able to do that with The Book of Fate.I thought maybe once you finish the main and faction quests that it might be filled up with a short tale of our PC. But sadly it's still blank.

There were mods in Oblivion that added all daggerfall and morrowind books. I'm sure the same will come out for skyrim with oblivion books as well.

You are not alone in the collector department, I keep at least one of everything I find.

Hanging out for the Construction Kit so I can redecorate my houses to better suit my OCD needs.
Really looking forward to making an armory so I can display all the armor on manequins and the weapons on wall plaques.

have you found the online application that lets you download the text of the books to your phone, iPad, nook or kindle and read them on the go? mine was for nook and I lost the graphics on the shadowmarks, otherwise it's complete text of every book so I can read them for myself in my own time.

not that I don't also have them in the game and haven't read them there... this just makes it so that the player can enjoy them when they're not playing.

"sniff"... Im on xbox... Waaahhhh...

What theu should do is make a mod where i can transfer my character from xbox to pc. Then when i build my gaming rig i dont have to play another 300 hours to be where i am again.. I dont usually play more than on playthrough... I character is everything i want. And if i decide to play the DB or TG or disturbing Daedric quests, ill save before them, do em, get achievement i guess, then revert back to my save. I dont like playing an evil character. Just cant do it.

I'm suprised you don't have a copy of the Lusty Argonian Maid, I didn't see it on the list.

I hate the books in a series when I can't find the complete series, I dunno if it's just me, but I can't stand putting them on my bookshelf if they're not in order, and with stuff like the Argonian Account where I've only found volumes one and three, I'm just like "WHERE'S BOOK TWO DAMNIT"

Lol. Youre not the only one. And im still on patch 1.1. So my bookshelves are kinda wonky. So i have the bookshelf in the achemy lab filled up.. (only the top?? Wtf man..) the table next to alchemy station has the better homes and gardens of whiterun and the chest above the bookcase has all the rest. Except of course the book of the dragonborn, which is on my nightstand. Lol.

As far as the lusty argonian, i havent come across it yet. I dont steal any books. Even though ive come across many that i wouldve wanted to. Lol. 300 hours in and ive only been to whiterun, winterhold(college as well) and windhelm. Probably about 10% of the map covered. Lol. I plan on spending 1000+ hours in this game. And on this one character.

I keep all my book in a barrel instead of bookshelves. It's nice because they show up in alphabetical order and it's easy to spot the duplicates. (I tend to take EVERY book I find and periodically go through, pull the extras and sell them. :))

I love collecting and reading all the books. I got the alchemy lab just so i could get the mod that put 3 more bookcases in there, it's more of a library now : )
At last count I had 84 different books, not counting journals, research notes, letters etc.
I have them in a spreadsheet too, and it tells me where they are kept also. I have dups of some of them. On a table or end table some where else in the house.

Yes this is a great link http://capane.us/2011/11/24/dovahkiin-gutenberg/ and it's been updated to V1.1 now.
I'm still reading the original books. the new version adds some images and was cleaned up some it says.
Awesome book !!! Glad I ran into it.
Thanks

I would like to read the books from Oblivion & Morrowind too. I'll be watching out for those : )

There was a mod that had player-made books in Oblivion. It also took all of the books from the previous games and re-added them to the game. I have a feeling that they'll be making a comeback once the Creation Kit is released.

I want to collect all the books in Skyrim, don't really care to much for the weapons and armour thought. I do like your idea of tracking the books you've collected on your iphone notes that, so I might end up doing the same.

Wow! I never thought about using a barrel. I wish chests organized items alphabetically! Thank you for the tip!

Hmmm. Where did you find a non-respawning barrel? Most barrels and sacks are "food storage" therefore respawn regularly.

There's one under the stairs in Breezehome, for starters.

Hey Ver, long time no see! Hope things are okay....

I haven't played the toons that have Breezehome in a while. And I never pay attention to barrels, because as far as I was aware, they all respawned! So that's interesting that there's one that doesn't respawn.... But I'm liking Honeyside better lately (as the mod for it is better than the Breezehome ones - by the same guy *shrug*) Though I don't like Riften much itself, and I DO like Whiterun, but not much point in messing around there if I'm not doing the MQ any more....
