Books: Do you read them all?

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 2:30 am

I was wondering about the books in the game. Do you guys read them all through? I didn't reallty in Oblivion. When I started the Skyrim, I thought, this time I will read the books. BUT when I ran into books that were so massive, dozens of pages, even just quickly clicking through them to see how long they were took ages, I just let it go. I usually read books that are max 5-6 pages. Otherwise I just open them and see if I gain some stats from them. How about the rest of you? Do you sit and read all the massive opuses you find in the game?

I know I am probably missing out a lot by not reading them :(

I do, but on the UESP. I can read them at my leisure without having to find them in the world and cycle through the tiny pages.

Nope. I've read some. But, they're generally nonsense. Some provide background lore. Others don't.

Yep. Some are lore, some are good reads (The Real Barenziah, The Cake and the Diamond). Others offer tips (some books list potion ingredients or where things are in the game), and some are just entertaining (Lusty Argonian Maid, A book that belongs to a blind bandit that has no text in it)

Yep.

Book are a great way to both eat food (IRL) and enjoy the game at the same time.

I've been reading them since Morrowind, and most of them have great stories... especially Palla, The Mystery of Talara, Immortal Blood, The Argonian Account, Dance in the Fire and the 2920 Series.

I tend to read the books that I came across in game. I read a few in Oblivion which holds 20 plus pages but forgot which one was it. Oh yea it's something about the expeditionary force and how their invasion turns disastrous..

I normally only open them to see if it gives a skill up bonus, or map update, or quest.
Certain things I have read because they gave information helpful for solving a puzzle or quest.

I haven't been rereading the books I remember reading in Oblivion and Morrowind. If I recognize one as new, I take a gander. True, not all of them would be bestsellers, but almost all flesh out the lore and immersion. Books like the Wolf Queen have been around for a while, but take on a new significance because the setting is Skyrim.

Probably it was this one that you're referring to: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Report:_Disaster_at_Ionith%5DReport: (Report: Disaster at Ionith)

Yes I read a few of them, my favourites are Wabbajack, The cabin in the woods, Beggar/Thief/can't remember the last part. Also I love King of Beggars, the Great War and The Obivion Crisis. Thief of Virtue is plenty of nostalgia and I'm enjoying carrying with me Shadowmarks and Immortal Blood wherever I go.

My answer here is simple, it depends what TES lore suits me. Like Daedra, The Dark Brotherhood, Vampires, Werewolves, extinct races, unique or funny book titles etc. :read:

Yes I do, my first character was specifically an avid collector of all the books in the game. I carted all the ones I found back home and read them, once the CK comes out I'll be putting a library on to one of the homes and replaying that character.

If you feel you are missing out you could always try just collecting and storing them and then reading the odd one or two who's subject you might find interesting. The one about the war is a good one, up the stairs behind the jarl of whiteruns throne. Just be careful about accidentally stealing it.

I read them all , only thing is I have so many I now I have to store them on the floor and have another 20 odd in my book menu. And finding more on my travels I can't remember if I have them already.

Put them all in a chest, still grab any books you can find, and then when you go back to your chest to add more books look for titles that have an indication that you have multiple copies.

It depends what mood I'm in, but at a guess I've read about 5% of books for far. I'll would like to read them all but it may take a very long time.

I'm the same way. Luckily there seems to be more books added this time around. Kind of wild seeing common books in previous games being rare and sought after by NPC's.

I have at least one character try to collect them all (usually a mage), but I've never actually managed to find them all in game. My biggest collection was in Morrowind. If I found it, I've read it.
