BookShelf Question

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 7:10 pm

I followed LouisAT444's video tutorial on how to make a bookshelf and it worked ok I get the bookshelf activation message but in the vid he mentions about putting a collision marker up to stop the books from flying off the shelf and every time I put the marker up the activation message no longer appears .

I did a search for bookshelf and notice a lot of people having problems with flying books but no mention of a collision marker

Make sure that on each collision marker, select the Primitive Tab and set Collision Layer to L_UNIDENTIFIED.

That makes it work one-way (from inside out) giving the player access to the triggers.

Glad to hear it :) Was the collision layer the problem?

In the same matter, I followed the same tutorial about the bookshelves, but whenever I place my books, they take a weird place sideway, half-opened... I thought at first that the collision marker might ''press '' them in the bookcase, and put a thinner layer. Than I made sure that the click-trigger and the ''regular'' trigger covered all the books markers, which are aligned with just enough space between them ... and still, same result. Anyone knows how to fix it so that the books stay aligned properly?

I found that I had to make sure the bookshelf container was -WELL- away from the book markers themselves (I positioned them outside and behind the bookshelf furniture) to make the books stand the way I wanted them. When I had the container in amongst the bookmarkers, or even touching them in any way, the books would be placed all wrong in-game.

The other thing is to make sure that your collision markers cover -all- obvious openings around your bookshelf or other furniture that you're using - they shouldn't just cover the face of the books i.e. for bookshelves, cover the whole front (top to botton and left to right) of the shelf unit so there's no escape gaps at all (airtight, so to speak). Does that make sense?.

It does make sense!

Thanks for the reply. Just to make sure, you put the bookshelf container away, right? I will go try that immediately

Yep just to confirm - the container(s) were outside of and separate to the furniture units and markers. Each container was also separate and not touching any other.
