ED - E + Boone = A Big Pile of Dead Legionaires!

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:01 am

So ED-E lets you spots things way out of your spot range even with 10 PER...

Boone will highlight anything you aim at with a red glow...

I was playing a good guy sniper working for NCR already, but now all I have to do is find a high place and it is the Ides of March for the Caesar boys!

I read in the Canard PC review that ED-E and Boone are an epic combo. They said something about Boone shooting whoever you "paint" with his spotter skill. Is this true? If so, I wouldn't mind giving Boone an Anti-Materiel Rifle and going on a verifiable killing spree with nothing more than a pair of binoculars.

Those are exactly who I have! I've been trying to get more companions with no luck.

He doesn't seem to do it for binoculars (which he should) but he'll pop anything you aim at through a scope or iron sights. If he hasn't fired yet it's pretty quick from your aim to his shot.

Hmm, real shame about the binoculars. Still, good to know it is an option with the iron sights. Will he do this in passive, or only in aggressive mode? Thank you by the way for the response.

Both, but if he's aggressive he's most likely made a shot and will have to take time to shoot at what you want him to hit. I keep him on passive and then when I aim at something he shoots and if it isn't dead (only deathclaws and lakemurks have survived his aimed shot so far) then ED-E and I join in.

Wow. I know what my next character is going to be, a "pacifist" speech character with high charisma and the bonus companion nerve that comes with it. Gonna let Boone and ED-E get their hands dirty this time...

Next question: If you equip a follower with a weapon, I take it you still have to provide them with multitudes of ammo, correct? I'd love to give Boone an Ant-Materiel, but I don't know that I could come up with enough Ammo for it to be viable.

Actually I haven't even tried to replace his starting weapon. He says he's not very good in melee and I don't want to replace his sniper rifle for two reasons; it's killed most everything we have met in one hit, and it doesn't need ammo.

I have changed his clothing to a wasteland outfit for a +1 AGI +1 END boost, but that's it. Even his hat is perfect for him, +1 PER and +5 Crit chance.

So why mess with perfection? I'm sure it won't last forever, but until he can't one shot things and/or is dying all the time, he gets what he started with.

These are the first two companions I found (only found one other since then) and I actually dismissed ed-e because it was too easy. i would stumble into a legionair camp and before I could draw my weapon they were all dead. If I were playing a different style of character this would be fine but I went with a combat character and I don't get to shoot much with these two around.

Damn, you cursed me.

I had no problem at all then I read your post went back into the game and next thing I know lost them both!

So I back-tracked since sometimes they will go off on their own path, and couldn't find them and I kept thinking that post was too much of a coincidence.

I had just left a building though, went back in it and there they were. There were two doors close together and they couldn't figure out I had went through the second door before they went through the first and were stuck all the way inside.

I was able to get ED-E out without too much trouble and then told him to wait outside, went back in and saw Boone couldn't make it up the stairs before the first door, so i got on the other side of him told him to back up (towards the door) and then when he was right next to the door I went through and so did he, went through second door and so did he, all better!

Apparently you can fix some of the bugs in-game.

As you can see through torp's post, on the wiki its mentioned that he's based on a 1956 song called "Eddie my love".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mz-mZ5zLkZg&feature=related the song, a real classic :)

Heck, I had to get rid of both of them because they either ended up getting me shot at while I was trying to sneak, or they killed everything before I could get a shot off. They have like 6-10x range I have, so I have to run up and literally beat the baddies to death with my bullets while they can stay back and just take pot shots.

In the guts of the game there is an ammo called MagicNPCammo (or something like that)
I'm not sure what it does (but I can guess). My guess would be that they have it as a hidden item in inventory, and that their weapon always has another shot.

No, it was a hidden brewery. I guess he didn't want to leave all that beer.
