Boots of Muffle

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 8:44 am

At Level 54 and haven't been able to find any anywhere so I can disenchant them and I've been checking with every merchant multiple times. I found them in previous games.

As for their value...I do have the Sneak enchantment that I can put on my boots. I have a high Sneak skill but was hoping to improve my chances by wearing Muffle boots also. I have the Muffle spell to use but would rather have the boots. Are Boots of Muffle still in the game? :tes:

The generic items are random loot, rare as other's have said.

Here are the unique items, better chance of finding those:

I don't think you can disenchant muffle boots. Only ones I can think of are the nightengale boots and the ancient shrouded boots.

Unfortunately IIRC all of those except one require you to either join the DB, the TG, or complete a really unsavory Daedric quest. Kinda narrows it down for those who don't want to do those things or are RPing a character who won't do them. And I'm not sure if the DB/TB gear can be disenchanted even if you get it... maybe if you join the DB it's different - I really can't remember - but I know none of the DB stuff you get by destroying them is disenchantable which really, REALLY svcks.

Thanks but it looks like the only one on that list I could use would be the Shrouded Shoes and you can't disenchant those like you can't disenchant the others on that list. I don't do Boethiah and I don't join the Thieves Guild so maybe that lowers my chances of finding Boots of Muffle. My Mage doesn't wear armor so disenchanting Boots of Muffle is important. I want to add them to my boots to use with the Invisibility spell so I don't have to keep casting a Muffle spell and killing the Invisibility spell.

Added: That's the thing, Lyn, you're right on it. I don't do DB either. I'm hoping to find the boots for my journey into Skuldafn. :tes:

I made sneak potions and invisibility potions. They don't seem to work very well.

The Predator's Grace boots would be the ones you want then. They've got to be disenchantable, because I had the Muffle enchant on my first character, and I didn't join the TG or DB and I didn't do the Boethiah quest. I remember that item name so I must've found them and disenchanted them, otherwise I would never have learned the enchantment... and I had to have learned it because every piece of footwear that I or my followers wore for the second half of that playthrough had that effect, and almost all of that gear was homemade.

They are just sitting there waiting for you near a chest near a waterfall at Hags End.

I've disenchanted muffle boots and placed the enchantment on every piece of footwear that I have. They are rare though.

Yeah, I have found none for sale so far. And as noted above, most of the unique items can't be disenchanted anyway even if you do what it takes to acquire them. :(

I remember the Muffle-enchanted boots I had near the end of my first playthrough, with Sneak at 100%... clearing Falmer dungeons was a breeze, most of them never knew what hit them (hint: it was an ebony arrow). *sigh* Good time, good times.

Well, I'm off to Hag's End then. I needed to head up that way anyhow.

The Enchantment on Predators Grace can not be learned at an Enchanting Altar :ermm:

Hmm... I suppose I must've bought some Boots of Muffle then. I don't remember it but it's possible, I was almost sure I just found something that let me learn it because I remember being overjoyed that I finally had it. Bummer. I still think it svcks that destroying the DB doesn't give you even one piece of clothing that can be disenchanted for it.

Try the magic Dawnstar chest. Lets you check the caravan's stock without chasing them down.

I fast-traveled to Hag's End and turned clipping off and quickly found the chest and the Predator's Grace boots but I didn't save after my test. They are Light Armor though and they wouldn't disenchant as someone said. My next character is going to be a warrior again and they'll be great for her now that I know where they are so thank you! There's a section on the Wiki for generic muffled boots. I found a pair in an earlier game but had no such luck in this game at all and I was really searching. I could just produce them with the console code but I'll just keep that vanilla and my mage will go in without them this game. I hope I have better luck next time finding them.

Barnaby, I've checked the one by Markarth but just never saw them there either, thanks.

As you're heading into Markarth,
Spoiler
coming over the bridge towards the west, there's a stone wall to your right just before the farm. Check the ground on the side of the wall nearest the river. It's nearby to where the caravan camps.
I never take anything though; I only look. :tes:

It is very rare to find the boots to disenchant. My follower had been wearing the DB boots until I got the Predator's Grace boots. I go to the local smith every time I go to a town to check their inventory. Finally after about 180 hours of game play, and close to level 57, I found a smith with a pair of Orcish boots of muffling that I could disenchant. Now my follower finally has some good light boots with a double enchantment of muffle and fortify sneak. I had probably been to a smith's shop over 200 times before I actually found a pair. It was really odd that the same smith had a different pair of muffling boots (ebony, I think) the next time I visited his shop. Since then, I have not seen another pair anywhere. It is just an extremely rare chance for the smith to have the boots. Keep checking the smiths, and you might get lucky, or you might never seen the boots during a playthrough.

It seems that at high levels, it's practically impossible to get a vendor to sell you boots of muffling. If you have your Conjuration skill at 90+, you could do what I did and get a Sigil stone and make boots of muffling at the Atronach Forge that can be disenchanted. And I must say, boots of muffling are great for loud followers.

I don't like muffle boots. I prefer muffle spell. Until I get the silence perk, I would use muffle spell whenever I needed silence, and use that slot for sneak enchanted items instead.

I found a pair of muffle boots as random loot around level 35. I disenchanted it but never used it.

If you want to find boots of muffling on xbox 360 you need to hit up Warmaiden's two vendors and the Orc father and daughter armorers in Markarth. They have the best chances of having them.

I cannot live without the self made Muffle enchant on boots for myself and all of my followers. I'd give similar advice as others about looking for the generic boots at every merchant, every time you hit a town, or whenever their stock respawns. You said you didn't want to cheat and use the console, but there is the other cheat of having a save game and continually reloading and checking merchants until what you want to buy spawns. If you don't want to use this blatantly, you could always be aware that every time you start up a game, all of the merchants will have newly generated stock, so it's a good idea to check all merchants every time you play.

I think searching high and low to get the Muffle enchantment is certainly worth it.

You can disenchant muffle-enchanted items. There are "muffle" versions for most armor-types' boots.

I found these muffle boots as random loot from chests at the end of dungeons. I was over level 35 however.

After more than 250 hours of checking with every merchant over and over, checking caravans, Imperial (where I found them in one game) and Stormcloak camps, just everywhere and not finding any, I posted. I did try the reloading and checking inventories technique, no luck. I didn't want to just zap them into the game because my game's been acting a little squirrelly already and I just want to get through it without more bugging (might be a little mod problem).

I have them now though. I used the Atronach Forge and did the reloading thing until I got the random enchanted Daedric armor muffled boots. I disenchanted them and put the enchant on my 0 armor rating boots...the ones with the three round fasteners on the side that look like brown suede. My little Breton mage is all in cloth and will be mostly invisible, muffled and with a necklace of peerless sneaking while she tries to get by those deathlords in Skuldafn. I'm sure she'll still have to fight some but we'll see how this goes.

Anyone who finds boots of muffle at any time should grab them immediately because there may not be another chance. Some items are just extremely rare. My mage had to be all in cloth (no armor) for my perks to work so I kept trying to find those boots. I can't imagine all the cloth she's wearing needed to be muffled much but now she has the enchantment. Thanks, everyone! I'll let you know how it goes. :tes:

Gratz! That enchant is totally worth the trouble. And don't forget to make any followers a pair as well. :)
