Bored in Skyrim - already!

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 6:11 am

So, I'm quite new to Skyrim, but I have tons of playhours on the other Scrolls.

I'm not sure why, but Skyrim hasn't given me so awesome feels that Oblivion or Morrowind did. I have played it around 10 hours which is not much, but still it feels like there's nothing more to see. Of course, theres some awesome new things like the real environment, dual wield and not all the caves look the same (like in the other games).

I think it is that most of the quests follow the same line in Oblivion, like "talk to a guy, go to a cave and kill everyone, get a valuable item, return it and get gold". The quests ARE done better than in Oblivion, but when you already know what happens in the quest, your face look like /___\.

Another thing is the nature exploring. It is wonderful since the nature looks real and is different in every part of Skyrim... yet it still gets me bored in 20 minutes. I face a lot of enemies, but they really wont give any challenge, even though I play on Normal and have not-so-superior weapons or armor.

So I'm asking you guys, what do you do in your Skyrim? I don't like cave raiding, since most of the items found there (armor, weaponry, etc.) I already have, or can be bought from vendors. I don't need Gold either, I have alot of it already and I don't wanna be so rich the game comes too easy.

I really hope the Construction Set will save the game.

Seriously? You're claiming to have seen everything in 10 hours?

Congrats, you've done 0.001% of the game.

Hell, whether he likes it or not, I'm just not buying this "I've played for ten hours and seen everything in the game" business.

Bull.

I literally don't claim seeing everything in 10 hours, it just FEELS like that. Every place I discover, looks all the same to me, was it a ruin, city, settlement, farm, cave or anything like that.

This kind of boredness really did not happen in Oblivion, where I had over 600 hours of gameplay.

I don't really know why I dont love Skyrim so much, but maybe I'll find my place after more playhours.

Perhaps you were expecting too much of a change and therefore you've already burnt yourself out.

The act of exploring everything can take so long it isn't even funny, and doing every sidequest takes much longer...

If you're going to get bored of the mechanics of the game so quickly, I honestly suggest moving to a different game.

The CK (Creation Kit) is only going to introduce mods, more than likely just for armor / weapon / physics, etc; not that people can't do otherwise, they just usually don't.

Maybe you're right. Im still holding on in Skyrim, I don't hate the game, but I think it's not so awesome either.

The CK will give alot more to the game, I love modding houses for myself, for example. And of course the Nexus user mods.

TC, there is indeed a lot less to content-wise. Especially the amount of quests has been decreased way too much. Guilds aren't really guilds now that they only have 8-10 quests each.

However there is a lot to see and do in the world. For example, have you visit Blackreach? It is an awesome breathtaking place that will fill you with the need to explore it just like Morrowind did.

Stuff like that make Skyrim a worthy purchase with more than enough hours of content in it. Granted, it isn't a very complex game. Quests have no depth to them as they've been simplified so everyone can enjoy them without reading. Even the lore has been simplified to make it accesible. I have yet to find a motivation in Skyrim to further read up into the new lore (there also isnt a lot of it).

Still, as an Action-RPG there is plenty to see and do atleast for the first 30-50 hours. So you being bored already before you've scratched the surface doesnt seem to be the fault of the game. You just aren't into the openworld exploration gameplay anymore. If you were than you'd still have plenty to do besides the quests. Dungeons have a lot more to them than in Oblivion.

Ya know It was about 10 or so hours in that really got me hooked on Skyrim. In the begining of the game, i had that deja vu feeling from Oblivion too. Once i starting gaining levels and exploring the perks trees, and starting smithing and improving my own weapons and armor. Then I got Lydia, and starting fighting some dragons and exploring some of the different Dungoens, i found i had gone from 10 hours to 20 hours in one day. I have been hooked ever since. I don't play it as much now, but i do still play it and doubt i'll stop any time soon.

How? o__O?? ... There are countless quests, soon to be more after people create them.

As for the guilds, understandable, but again, the quests are sure to increase with player feedback / implementation.
