BOS dead end

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 7:03 am

I first finished the quests with elder Macnamara so that he would end the lockdown, then immediatly went to paladin Hardin and gave him the evidence he needed to oust the elder. Now Im stuck at the point where they are both preparing to go to court. What can I do to advance this quest (resting for a week doesnt work). Maybe a console hack?

Hi guys, Sadly im in the same position as you and have no idea how to fix it. I have also spent hours waiting, killing and resurrecting Mcnamara and trying to reset the quest but i dont know how to find the quest ID to do this. Any help would be much appreciated.

stuck there too.. but i did notice that the BOS arent the only power armor users.. NCR uses power armor too.. they got heavy troopers that wear it.. perhaps they teach it to you? (have yet to find such a thing..)

(btw.. completely off topic.. near crimson caravan is a medical clinic that gives implants that boost SPECIAL.. costs a lot but still.. found it near end of game.. disappointed that i didnt notice earlier x.x)

I used the support submission tool to submit this issue last week, stated I would receive a reply within 24 hours but nothing back as of yet. Have now progressed to level 20 in the game and am still stuck and unable to use power armor and am afraid to continue for fear of further complicating the problem (Have to decide who to leave around when I disable Mr. House).

So, I purchased a game and am now stuck and unable to continue due to a critical bug with no awknoledgement from support well beyond the stated SLA (24 hours).

Bethesda,
Look, I get that this project is a major undertaking but launching Beta material just is not the way to maximize sales. There are no doubt many folks out there sitting on the fence that are definately not going to purchase this title until its in the bargain bin (and I cant see how thats not going to happen soon given the quality I have seen) due to the critical bugs left untouched. I doubt there is anyone that purchased this game and has not encountered a moderate to major bug, its that bad. I am reporting this one as it has left the game unplayable, but you should know I have at least 3 hard freezes per session and numerous flakey questlines and various other bugs in the short time I have been playing.

I myself am a Product Development Engineer and chances are a good portion of your staff use the products I am responsible for (Its my job to own my products support lifecycle post launch to end of life, I deal with my vendors and make sure there are consequences for lapses in the development cycle leading to bugs/defects post launch. All of this to say: I get it, probably more than anyone else. Pressure to launch, engineers saying its not ready, been there. Heres your problem: I wont be buying your software at launch (bargain bin or used if at all) and probably not ever in the future and I wont be the only one. I will also encourage others to do the same (and you know that behind every person like me there are many others that will follow suit). My company does not tolerate the launch of beta quality software, nor would you tolerate it if we did. Had you been competent about running any significant beta test I cannot imagine how these bugs could still exist to this magnitude.

Exit the entire bunker (including the stairs down) and wait 3-4 days. Hardin tells you that things will not change until then.

The NCR power armor doesn't need any training but it gives like -2 Agility if i remember whereas the brotherhood armor doesn't have any penalties.

conflict of interests, by the sound of it. ie, if the Elder ends the lockdown, that's that, he doesn't need to be outsted anymore, so Harding's questline should cease to be live. So when the Elder says he will change and end the lockdown, that's your cue to support him by walking away, not going off and ratting him out.

BUT - the game is full of such conflicts, unfortunately. Like: NCR commander told me to kill the head of the Fiends, and then later Khan drug maker told me to deliver package to head of the Fiends. You mean the one I killed earlier? gah..

I found a fix for this bug using the console to reset the quest line:

1. Save your game just in case something goes wrong.
2. Open the console using the tilde "~" key.
3. Type resetquest 0015D79D (those are zeros, not the letter O)
4. Now that the "Still in the Dark" quest has been reset, speak with Elder McNamara to get the quest again.
5. Thankfully, all your work from before still counts, so just keep talking to him to complete the quest steps. Eventually you will need to go talk to the other NPC about the parts you retrieved from the vaults. Do this, then head back to McNamara.
6. After talking to McNamara, the quest will be complete.

*Some important notes:
I didn't talk to Hardin at all - I didn't want to risk hitting the quest bug again.
You will receive XP and reputation again - I consider this a bonus for having to go through this crap to fix a buggy quest :)
Here's where I got the quest ID: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout:_New_Vegas_quests

Hope that helps.

Reset works, but there is next problem. :/ When I get quest again from McNamara, all BoS want me dead... I dont want to exterminate BoS -.-`

That's strange.. you're not wearing NCR armor are you? Hopefully they release a patch to fix this and the other serious bugs.

I have found that many quest lines overlap, like the game is hoping that you'll choose a faction and stick with them. As far as I can tell, all factions are good to some degree and all are bad to some degree, except the Brotherhood who, apparently, do nothing (yet)--and this is after the lockdown has been lifted.

Some factions instantly turn against you if you do the wrong thing. This game isn't as clearcut (or nearly as deep) as FO3, but it does have its own appeal.

BTW, I have Veronica with me and she kind of took over with the Elder during the quest mentioned above. Need to act with Hardin before that happens, I'm guessing.

BOS is bugged - The BOS quests can stop responding if Harden or McNamara get stuck (Pathing Issues) - no amount of waiting/come back later/or restarting the game will fix it. One must reload a previous save were Harden or McNamara are not stuck.

And this is not the only area were NPC's have pathing issues. But it is a critical issue if you have a major NPC that needs to be in a certain location before a Quest/Dialog can continue.

How many times have I seen the freaken NCR troppers walk over the bar counter at Mojave Outpost.....

This not only fixed my stuck-Elder problem with this quest, but it also fixed Veronica's behaviour and allowed her to trigger I Could Make You Care, which I was previously unable to do. Looks like they were connected in some way. Many thanks!

For info on the Veronica problems see my long post about it here: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1159562-i-could-make-you-care-not-starting/page__gopid__17067454#entry17067454
