BoS in Hidden Valley

Post » Thu Apr 14, 2011 2:31 pm

So, for the hell of it, I decided to check out the BoS in the game because I haven't run into them yet on any quest line. It said neutral for Hidden Valley so I figured I could walk up there and say, "What's up?" I was instead greeted with a patrol of Paladins that attacked me. Is there a specific quest that brings you there? If they are neutral towards me shouldn't I be able to at least talk to them?

Were you wearing any NCR outfits?

Did you bring an NCR friendly companion like Boone along?

Were you wearing any High Tech gear that might interest the Brotherhood?

I remember once descending down into the bunker, to be greeted by a party of knights that wanted me to strip and hand over all my gear :o

I let the entire Chapter taste the fury of Armor Piercing rounds...

My understanding is that they will attack you if they encounter you on the surface, if you're neutral. They don't want anyone discovering their base.

Veronica can get you there without hostility.

Ah, so only Veronica, huh? Well, that's cool. I'm not dropping Cass for Veronica this play through. Never liked the BoS anyway. Guess me and Cass are wiping them out tonight.

If you find one of their fallen patrols and retrieve a holotape with a mission password, you can still get into the BoS bunker.

You are aware that dismissing a companion does not make you lose them, right? You can collect them all.

I got in on the ED-E quest - I didn't think you could encounter them on the surface, but I suppose it does say that some go out. Glad I didn't meet them though.

I think I did find that actually, but after I left Hidden Valley, so maybe I'll go back with it if I have what I think I have. Is it found on a Paladin at the bottom of a radioactive crater on Black Mountain?

Yeah, I'm aware of that, but I just feel like I'd be cheating on her ;) I've already got Rex and Lily in the wings at the Luck 38 and didn't like them nearly as much as Cass. I'll try other companions on my next play through.

I got in without any of the above tricks. You just have to go to the right bunker (of the several there). Then they will confront you and make you give up your gear so you can go talk to elder, who sends you on a simple quest. After that they will let you come and go with no issues and offer a series of quests.

But if you run into a patrol on the surface at night they do automatically attack you before you've made contact.

Well, in that case, maybe I'll see if I can stealth my way in.

The patrol is only out at night, FYI.

Yes, that's one of three dead patrols. Once you retrieve the holotape, find the correct bunker in Hidden Valley, and use the intercom... say whatever mission password you have and prepare to have some weapons aimed at your face... in a good way.
