When I free the hostages, they immediately become hostile and attack me. My only companion is ED-E and he's sitting idle in my motel room in Novac, I'm not wearing any faction gear and I have good reputation with the NCR (been doing quests for them, killing Legion, etc.) The only oddity that might be causing an issue is that I haven't done any of the main quest, aside from 'Ain't that a Kick in the Head' and from what I hear this is supposed to be connected to to the mainquestline though it seems of little significance to it, and even so I don't know why that would cause this particularly odd issue. Anyone know what's up?

what happens when you go outside? Do other NCR members attack you?

Hm, apparently the problem sorted itself out. I tried a fourth time (had tried 3 times earlier to the same result) and it worked as expected. Odd.
