Bound Weapons or Destruction as Necromancer?

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 5:42 am

So, I just started of a new character (master difficult, DiD) who should be a necromancer and who should be skilled in Conjuration, Illusion as main skills and Alternation for defense.

I kinda need a direct combat skill, but I can't decide between Destruction magic or Bound Weapons :s
So, what would fit better in your opinion: Bound Weapons, or Destruction magic?

Neither really, I would say stick with Conjured atronach or zombie as your main combat skill, and have a knife for those times when they get close, but only to be used very sparingly if at all.

Typical necromancers use Frost spells, Alteration and even Restoration. If you just rely on conjuring/ressurecting you will die early. Ressurrected dead last for only a short period of time in earlier levels and they cant follow you sometimes into different cells, leaving you with only destruction as your weapon.

You're playing DiD on master?

Step 1: Don't be a Necromancer... be an Atromancer.
Step 2: Forget using Destruction as a means of direct offense... use it (sparingly) to supplement your Atronachs attacks, while keeping a wary eye on your magicka bar. Destro drinks down the blue like a lusty Irishman. :P
Step 3: Do NOT engage in melee... if it comes to that, then you should have already been running away and living to fight another day. DiD requires low-risk playing in order to maximize lifespan.

Yeah my necromancer was incredibly difficult to play before I got Dead Thrall and I was on expert, tho I only have 100 HP and don't use health pots. Zombies don't last and never pass through cells with you so you're constantly raising sub par corpses just for a meat shield. I died at least a dozen times trying to get from whiterun to the college on foot at level 8. Carriages will be your friend.

Destruction is pretty weak damage wise so it may not be the way you wanna go, tho runes will be handy and the stagger perk for dual castes spells is great. If you wanna do decent damage from range without s big perk investment I'd go for the bound bow. More damage then destruction and much less chance of killing your zombies with friendly fire.

Honestly I don't see this character lasting long on Master. Necromancy is a high magicka demand occupation so your HP will be low. Which means a slight mistake will wind up with you getting one shotted. Hell my necro has died at least a dozen times just to traps.

destruction can be good when your a low level, but once you get up to those high levels it becomes less effective, while weapons can be quite effective even at high levels, tho since your playing DiD anything with range that keeps you far from the fight would probley be best, a bow, destruction, it will all work, tho as one person allready said you magica will be drained so fast, it will probley get u killed.
