Bounderies - non shall pass!

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 4:47 pm

Hi all,

I just ran into another little problem that I would like to ask you folk about.

If you play Skyrim on the normal not modded game map and go as far as you can north, your character will suddenly stop and a message will be shown to inform you that you can go no further.

I have been trying to put such a boundary around the small island (se below) I am making.

I wondered if this is something I need to do in 'Regions' or is there an object such as an invisible wall to use?

I looked at making some sort of trigger box (or collection of them so to say) such as used in the CK 'Bethesda Tutorial Traps and Prefabs' too but have not worked it out yet;
  • Palyer enters trigger box
  • Player stopped from moving further in trigger box area
  • Message shown 'You can not go that way' or similar
If any of you know a way to do this or can point me to a written or video tutorial for this it would be great if ya shared. (As easy to understand as possible I'm still learning CK!)

I feel a bit silly asking for help sometimes - es[ecially if the solution is as subtle as a knock round the head by a brick in a sock! Thus far though this modding community has been really helpful and patient. :smile:

Thanks in advance.

For those of you that do not know already, I am creating a small island to the north of the main game world in its own world space. I am doing so to get to know the CK better.

Though I have solves a lot of problem tasks on my own, I have been popping into the forums to read up on how to solve problems, have helped if I could and got a lot of help from other forum users. :smile:

The main work on my island is now complete;

Spoiler
All of landmass including underwaterdone
Cliffs etc added and working
Working player lightable lighthouse
Ext shack and dock done
Icefloes and icebergs in sea
Climate now working as wanted (not over regions though!)
Primary NPCs done - working on getting some friends to voice act when ready for that!
Mapmarker on game map - beyond game boundary

Lots more stuff all done :smile:

I am more or less at the point of adding (preplanned) quests.

I have considered adding a secondary land mass but this can be done as a type of update!

You just need to set up a collision plane. It is the box on the tool bar with a "C" on it. They are set up like triggers and you can adjust the size, etc.

And if you want it to display a message as well, put a trigger box along the edge of the collision plane that displays the message when the player enters it.

Just a quick hello and thanks for the help.

This morning I quickly and easily setup a collision sphere and will later place a trigger box for the message. (On way out to theatre.)

I kinda knew what needed to be done - just not how to do it!

The base of my project will be complete when I finish the collision tasks at hand.

Thanks all. :smile:

Edit: Yeh! Collision sphere - rofl - DOH! Sorting it properly soon. :)

Thank you for the help all,

I now having working border 'Trigger Box' linked from 'Collision Plane' and with a collision notification script! We got there in the end. :smile:

For anyone wanting to see an example, the image linked below was captured from CK and edited to add words (including script example) in Paintshop Pro.
