Bow Bashing

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 11:20 am

Am I the only one that would like to see the bash attack made by a Bow affected by the various weapon bash perks in the Blocking tree? Obviously not anything from the left branch pertaining to shields, but the right side should be fair game. I think archers woukd greatly benefit from an increased chance to stagger, or even disarm. Additionally, perks like Fists of Steel and the Khajiit racial ability should benefit the damage output of a bow punch. Thoughts?

Do you mean, punching with a bow in hand, or just smashing the bow into someones face like a shield?

As the bow would likely snap in half...

The punching animation as it stands now, only with the same added effects the other weapons benefit from.

No bow bashing enthusiasts? Would be good for archers who DON'T like to slink around in the shadows.

I agree with you OP. As for the poster who said a bow would break in half, that may be true for some of the wooden bows, but probably not for Dwarven, Elven, Glass, Ebony or Daedric bows, and certainly not true for a bound bow. Those would all be durable enough to bash with, same as any othe weapon. If you can power bash with a dagger, why not with a bow. Personally, I don't go for the power bashing cause it drains stamina I'd rather use for a power attack (melee) or sprinting/zooming (archer). So I just use regular bashes and put my perks elsewhere. But I don't see why they should not work with bows.

I wish you could just plain *block* with a bow.

Bashing is neat, but the stamina drain & timing of it elude me. I'm still working on my technique, though.

Not so, most bows are made of quality and durable material. Additionally, it would be flexible. You could totally smash someone's face in with it without it coming to harm. I suppose you may be more concerned about ruining the finish or scuffing your finely crafted bow if the person is armored, which is a legitimate concern. If someone were coming at you swinging a blade, or hammer you may need to invest in a new weapon. But only in real life, thankfully in this world you'd still keep your weapon.

Do you think bows are made from brittle or something? As a real life archer I assure you that wooden bows would not only be strong enough to bash someone in the face with like a shield. But even strong even to be used as a bat to beat someone with. Takes a long to break a well crafted bow.

What do you mean by "block bash"? Do you mean the Power Bash, Deadly Bash and Disarming Bash perks work with a bow? I checked the UESP and there is a talk page that says this but it has not made it to the main Block page yet.

The Bash Perks do work for a Bow. Go test it if you don't believe it.

Do I sense a hint of sarcasm? ;) I will vouch for Mr. Carrotfeets. His posts always come with a little attitude, but if he says it I believe him.

I enjoy playing a bow user, but I never use the bow blocking thingy (except by accident), doesn't really make much sense to me that it's there in the first place. Even without it, bow usage is more than strong enough (possibly the strongest combat mode with only 8-9 perks invested in it?), and you don't need much secondary combat (defensive) skills to back it up. Even on master, about the only way I can train light armor, is by buying the skill xp, and I don't exploit crafting.

So that is seriously amazing. Anyone know if Quick Reflexes works with a bow?

uhm, you CAN use the block perks... right side of tree only.

The slow time doesn't work because it requires being in guard stance... which bow's don't have. You just punch without first being in guard.

Obviously the blocking perks (no arrow, redecued elemental) don't work

But my friend said that disarming perk does work....

Disarm would be the most useful, good to hear. Every second they are taking to pick their gear up off the ground is 2-3 feet of ground I can gain to line up a shot.

Really and truly they should have a Perk in the Archery tree that turns your R-Click into a shove that throws enemies back and has a chance to stagger them.
