X-box 720 and PS4 Skyrim

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 4:08 pm

Okay I just had a thought, what do you guys think the chances are that we could get an updated version of Skyrim (probably Game of the Year Edition) on the PS4 and X-box 720?

I really think it boils down to Bethesda's decision but it would be a smart move to give gamers a faster engine, higher quality graphics like the HD pack for the PC and all the DLC. Plus it is easy money for Bethesda, not that I'm accusing them of pulling a EA here (yeah I'm calling it that) but financially it benefits them and game wise it makes us happy so it is a mutually beneficial product that wouldn't require much development time since the Engine will already be updated for Next Gen games, the HD texture pack was already made for the PC, and the content would have already been made at that point.

Thoughts?

Both MS and Sony have denied they will announce new consoles at the coming E3 (can still happen can be spin).. But even if they were announced ... it would be probably a good year before they are released to the market.
We don't even know what they will be called.
No offence: But the game would be completely outdated as soon as these, as of now fictional consoles, were released..
Since we don't know anything about the architecture of those consoles it is not even known if porting is possible or easy.. In other words ^

Microsoft and sony's first priority is to sell as many consoles as they can. That means having the newest and best games before re-releasing older one's. We've seen it with the 360 and PS3.

Well consider that with the rate of Expansion pack release we will probably see expansion packs coming out for another year and half and the current console versions don't sport the high end HD texture pack so there is already graphic improvement available.

Also that is not exactly true. We have gotten a few sneak peeks at the consoles through rumors and patents. PS4 (code named Orbis) is going AMD on the graphic chips and will be the more gamer console while Microsoft is moving away from the core gamer market and making their console more a multimedia platform to capture the mainstream audience.

Also Bethesda has the specs. They placed an add for someone to work on a next gen RPG.

I think there is a bit more chance of this happening than credit is being given.

If it plays out like the 360 did, it'll be up to the manufacturers to come out with an emulator to make the console backward compatible for each game. If the boxes are designed that way, no problem.

This is not going to happen. At best you'll have either consule capable of emulating the 360 and PS3 versions. Or you'll be able to direct download an emulated 360/PS3 version via Xbox Live Marketplace/PSN.

Both new consoles are still 2-3 years away in reality.

Adding shine to paint will only make it shine harder..
Let me explain that one: Skyrim, great as it looks, as well as most multi platform titles have been built to accomedate current gen consoles. This means while the PC version can look great and is capable of more.. it is still based on current gen, outdated tech..
New consoles will be able to compete with what current PC's are capable off.
Rereleasing it will cost money... new consoles are expensive.. at start up.. and since people can mod the game on PC's, the core audience will still play the game on older consoles..

Both (except for the AMD news) are rumors... Them claiming not releasing info at E3 as of now is fact... (as far as claims by press offices can be interpreted as fact)

Also Bethesda has the specs. They placed an add for someone to work on a next gen RPG.

I think there is a bit more chance of this happening than credit is being given.
Developmen takes time.. they may have a dev-console but that dev-kit will not be the consumer version. Pre release dev-kits are like betatests.. A software company can start development but tweaking will still be needed..
Skyrim being re-released is still unlikely

Updated? Not gonne happen for a long time if at all. I would expect it to be a patch that would allow you to play it on the next gen consoles though. I also hope this is the case for the Morrowind version for the original xbox.

I wouldn't count on it.

As mentioned, the next gen consoles are 2-3 years away, and by then, ES6 will probably be Bethesda's focus. I wouldn't expect an "enhanced" Skyrim when Fallout 4 will be the relevant Bethesda title then. When Fallout 3 was nearing release, Oblivion was all but dead to Bethesda, un-patched bugs and all.

This depend a lot of hardware, some rumor says that PS4 will use an AMD x86 cpu and not an cell, in this case backward capability would require extra hardware.
If xbox keep the PowerPC cpu and keeps the architecture pretty similar it will be possible to emulate.

My friend always complained about how he had to keep his PS2 to be able to play older versions of Grand Theft Auto.

Do not think they are 2-3 year out, first we have had leaks about developers testing next Xbox, more important Wii U is coming at the end of the year, yes it's weaker than PS3/ xbox720 will be but stronger than current generation, can they let it stay alone on the top for two years? PS3 was six month after Xbox 360 and much more expensive, this put Xbox 360 on top until now.

it will probably be the same way people with an xbox 360 can play morrowind, you know, nothing really different. but then again thats not for me to decide but i would seriously doubt that they would redo the entire game for a the next gen consoles, i know people say there is no such thing as a stupid question, but i swear some of the people on the forums take that for granted

It will be like the Xbox and the 360, if the game developer wants to put backwards compatibility into the machine, then older games will play. If not, then it won't.

However, it would be up to Sony and or Microsoft to design this in. Not any game developer.

Very, very, very low.

Games don't get updated for new consoles very often to start with. And usually (like with "oldies" on PSN) that's just an emulation of the originals, not a rewrite.

And from what I've read, it doesn't sound like the next console gen will be using a very similar architecture as the current (esp PS4).... so "updating" the game for the new consoles would effectively be doing a whole brand new version. Really, very, not likely.

(Heck, they haven't even made the patches needed to get Fallout 3 running cleanly on Win 7 x64 - which, considering FO:NV works fine, shouldn't really be much of a change.)

I second and third this, I really hate 3D. I dont care if its an option but any games had better be pretty without the 3D mode on.

According to rumors the next Playstation will be a closed spec, barebone PC, just like the first Xbox was.

As for the next Xbox, I've heard all sort of wild rumors including talks of a multicore Arm monster with a System-on-Chip for backwards compatibility.

If the PS4 rumors are true (AMD A-10 or higher Fusion APU with AMD HD8xxx derivate) porting Skyrim for PC to the PS4 would be quite trivial.

It might be trivial, but why would they bother when they're working on getting the next game out? One that is designed for those systems?
