Brand spanking new, here or FO3? : Fallout: New Vegas

Wow thanks for the responses guys. I was getting antsy after posting this (while drunk) last night and decided to just use my steam store credit on new vegas, decided to just play the newest one first.
Keep in mind while I play a lot of different types of games the only rpg's i ever pay attention to is the final fantasy series. So I load NV up last night and play for a few hours and am totally regretting purchasing the game, haven't experienced any bugs it's just the game felt so empty and desolate.
This morning I decide to give the game another wack, all of a sudden my roommate comes home from work and I reliaze I have just played this for like 5 hours in the blink of an eye.
Everything about this game is amazing, I can't believe how much content they put in with seemingly no cares whether you ever see it or not. I feel that this has begun a long time addiction to the Fallout series.

When finished with NV, Buy the series collection, Its like 10 dollars for FO1/2.

(With Fallout: Tactics, But thats not part of the "True" series..)

Great news! The desolate feeling is definitely part of the charm. These games can get downright depressing at times, but that's when the radio can be a godsend.

I hope you'll give the other Fallout games a go. They're some of the most creatively cynical pieces of art ever created.

Definately start with Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition!

Its a great game and now that it cheap even with all the DLC its a bargain. Since it has been out for a long time now most of the glitchs and bugs have been patched.
As for Fallout New Vegas well... Half the quests you cant even finish because of the amount of bugs/glitchs and constant game freezes etc. Right now its only worth a bad review.

But once your finished with FO3 and your turn to FO:NV, youl get to enjoy it just like FO3 where hopefully by then it has been patched, the DLC will be out and a lot cheaper.

This is how RPG/Adventure games should always be ~it just seems [to me] that few studios will risk a bad first impression (and subsequent bad word-of-mouth ~and press) from a slow start, and less than brutally obvious content.

I have never played a lick of any of the fallout games but my roommate talks constantly about them. It's piqued my interest and now I want to try one of the games.
My question to you very experienced folks is if I should just start with New Vegas since it's the newest game, or if i should just start with fallout 3.
Seems Fo3 has near unanimously good reviews but NV has somewhat mixed reviews.
please let me know what you think would be best

Start with Fallout 3. New Vegas should be all sorted out by the time you've played it through a few times.

We all have exactly the same game so really, its everyone. Except on the PC.

Wrong. I'm on Xbox. No game breaking glitches or uber long load times. I only read about them here.

Start with FO3 GOTY (all expansions)
Then start playing New Vegas two years later, because that's about the time you'll be done with FO3.

If you play on Xbox or playstation play New Vegas first. If you play on PC play FO1, first

Start with Fallout 3.

It's best to play one game at a time.
And in that case it's best to start with Fallout 3.
That way you'll appreciate all the new features New Vegas brings.
And after Fallout New Vegas buy the old games to get a full sense of the franchise's lore.

Even if they are old games and are played out in isometric turn-based combat.
And if you don't like that kind of thing download a character editor and create a god-character if you're only interested in the story.

Fallout 3. Even if its not a direct link to the first two games its an incredible game. Then new Vegas which is just as much fun, just not as stable yet.

Why start anywhere but at the beginning? :confused: The Fallout Trilogy is el cheapo, and includes Fallout and Fallout 2.

Indeed I always get around to replaying the originals atleast once a year. Right now I'm giving FO:Tactics another go.

fallout 3 start with a new gameplay with could be played as 3ps or 1ps, and the adjustment of playing new vegas is not as difficult as it seems if you already played fo3, the thing is you will be expect newer things.

As mentioned, not only is it more stable but all the expansion packs are already released and the modding community has had two years to create tons of quality content. New Vegas is great, though, and Fallout 3 isn't going anywhere. Actually, it would be interesting to hear how somebody who played New Vegas first then experienced Fallout 3 would compare the two. Everyone here played 3 first and was comparing the two while still riding the wave of 'new Fallout' euphoria for New Vegas.

haha yeah i'll let you guys know. Have been playing NV and am totally hooked, I have never played any game like this and am fully impressed. I do get some glitches and have crashed once but it's easily overlooked. I've looked at the additions to NV and I don't really think there's anything too big to detract very much from fo3, but hey what do i know, im still very much a newbie

Fact is this (half finished) game is glitched/bugged/lagged so badly its not worth getting.

That isn't a fact. At least not for me, or anyone else I know who has the game. I haven't seen a bug since before the first patch.

Maybe it's because I play it on a PC, and PCs are just better than consoles in every way?

On topic: Either game would be a good pick, honestly. Though if I plan on playing Fallout 3 at any time, play it first. It will be a great, entertaining experience only before you've played New Vegas. After playing New Vegas it will be nothing but a big, epic facepalm.
