Bridge Xbox 360 to laptop

So I bought a crossover cable today so I could hook my 360 into my laptop and connect to live. I have a WiFi adapter however the WiFi in the dorm here will not work on the 360. I've been using an AT&T hotspot card which is okay but I have a 5gb data limit and can't download a lot on my Xbox or stream Netflix.

So I bridged the connection from the LAN to my laptop in Windows 7 and my Xbox picks up a wired connection but in the test it says 'Can't obtain an IP address from your router or modem'. I'm not sure if I'm doing everything correctly.

Does anyone know what they're doing who can help me out? Of course I've Googled and tried following various directions but I'm kind of lost. I thought I was doing it right...

EDIT:

Alright, I just found out it works if you don't bridge it, all you have to do is click on properties on your connection and click 'allow other networks to connect through this' or something like that. Sweet.

Now if only I weren't stuck in a 2 year contract on my hotspot for $50 a month (with a 5gb download limit). :<

EDIT 2: Well the lag is actually a little worse than my hotspot so I'll just use the connection through my laptop for Netflix and downloading and game on the 4g. Win Win.
