Bring back the Shivering Isles!

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 1:08 pm

As I'm sure most are familiar with. The Shivering Isles was a beautifully written and designed DLC to the wildly successful game Oblivion. Some may even argue (like myself) that it is the one expansion that set Oblivion apart from all other elder scrolls games. Giving the player an adventure similar to Lewis Carrol's decent into madness as depicted in the children's book "Alice in Wonderland".

I propose that Bethesda Software should bring back the notion of the Shivering Isles! That they should design an entirely new world mass (with similiar look and feel to the old idea they had)

This could easily be written into the story as the continuation of the old story line. That the new Lord/God of the realm in Oblivion has lived for the 300ish years in that world. That the land has greatly prospered and flourished. That it is much bigger now, and there are extremely large cities. The two halves have grown more separate, and split the entire landmass in half; to the point of devastation. Leaving the "save the day" Dragon Born to step in, and repair the now shattered land.

----------------------------------------------------------------

The sad truth of the matter is that, while I LOVE Skyrim in all its glory, after experiencing such a vibrant world in Oblivion....... I now find myself being left wanting. Feeling as though Skyrim itself simply cannot feel as wonderfully immersive as it could or should. Skyrim strongly NEEDS that wonderfully immersive atmosphere that is so completely alien to the common rabble one. The world of generic grey armors, brown trees, barking dogs, and oddly immortal children.

I feel a sense of let down. Like a child who was hoping for a bicycle, but only getting clothes for their birthday.

Highly doubt they would revisit a place when there are so many other choices yet to be depicted in a game.

no thanks. it has already been explored.

the speculation on the Snow Prince making a return and such sounds much more enticing that the revisiting of places we've already been once before.

edit: although it's highly possible we could be returning to Solstheim...

I feel exactly the opposite. Cartoony landscapes are not immersive to me. Subtle, realistic landscapes are immersive to me.

I also thought the whole "madness" thing in Shivering Isles was Hollywood-cliche bad. I felt Sheogorath's schtick in both Oblivion and Skyrim was juvenile and embarrassing.

after the "Nu-Cyrod" incident with Oblivion, I couldn't help but laugh at his admiration for it's landscape. a lore-breaking device made whole.

Guys read before posting, he said "the notion of" Shivering Ilses, not "bring back the Shivering Isles". It would look and feel different, and play different this time And I agree wholeheartedly, the Shivering Isles was a very good expansion, solid, big map, interesting quests and characters, beautiful art... and a huge distraction/contrast from the world of Cyrodiil. I would totally love that for Skyrim again.

I would like to visit that madness again, yes but they should create a new reason and a new story I hate repetition and there are so many different things to visit in thes universe!

Give it some time to breathe, Shivering Isles is still awesome and its graphics are not yet dated. Maybe in TES VII or VIII I would enjoy revisiting some places and see what's changed. Same goes with Morrowind.

Interesting. I could've sworn you mentioned in the past that you haven't even tried the Shivering Isles expansion.

Anyway, I loved the concept of the Shivering Isles, but felt it didn't quite achieve it's full potential. i'd love for them to revisit it at some point, but doing so as Skyrim DLC would be far too soon. Maybe in another decade if the series is still going strong then.

Shivering Isles was amazing, and I would love something like that for an expansion... Pretty unlikely in my opinion but it would be awesome.

Perfectly said.

If I want to visit the shivering isles I can pop in my oblivion disc, I do not want the same game remade over and over again.

I'd rather leave Daedra and their realms alone, this time.

Give me another portion of Tamriel!

I have seen Shivering Isles now, so I do not want Skyrim to go back their. However seeing another realm would be good, and I am hoping for Merida or Azura's realm.

The hole Daedric realm expansion was very good but if they want to use it in Skyrim, and they should, then they well need to pick a new realm.

It seems you've made the assumption that there will be anymore offline games after this new leap into the MMO world....
The game creaters will be so engrossed and busy with maintaining their new baby that they most likely won't ever make another elder scrolls game. It's a sad, but very likely reality. Unless their attempt at an MMO horribly tanks; they will be investing a very serious amount of time into its development and maitenance.

That's why I want a few great DLCs for Skyrim.

Though, I believe that if their going to end the series, the last game should be a good final send off. Like being able to revisit all the lands, and see what has all changed and transpired in all that time.

I'd rather we see something new and exciting, instead of treading old material that's already been used very recently.

Oddly enough, I enjoyed Shivering Isles and Point Lookout more than Oblivion and Fallout 3. They were Oblivion and Fallout 3's brightest spots for me, brimming with creativity, and I hope that Skyrim finds something similar.

As in, something completely original. Therefore, not a remake of Shivering Isles.

The concept of the bright and colorfulness? I have nothing against it. I would love to see a very dark mysterious DLC/Expansion as well.
