Brink Abilities

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:50 am

Ok I know there are only hours away now from knowing, so excuse my impatience.

I know there are 52 total abilities across all 4 characters and universal.

Each ability will cost 1 level point as well as a rank requirement. So my big question is will I be able to buy 20 abilities for 1 character loadout??

and......

I think you can only have 3 abilities armed at one time?? can I change out these abilities at a command post with other abilities I have bought ????

And one more Q, that just popped in my head, can My Engie Class buy Medic or other Character Class Abilities???

There are only around 10-12 abilities per class and i think 10 universals. So you can get all abilities for one Class. Yes you can only have 3 abilities on at once but the universal ones are passive and you do not need to equip. From what i know you are stuck using the abilities you picked for that class until the game ends and you can swap again.

Adding on to this. The specific class abilities are split at about 50% passive and 50% active (can only equip 3 of these).

There is no such thing as an engi class. You have a character that you can do whatever you want with. You can split abilities evenly amongst all 4 classes or you can focus on 1 class + universal (I would recommend 2 classes + universal, personally).

I was just thinking in regards to this.
If there are no classes, And all abilities are available to all characters, then really arent all abilities universal then?

I cant wait for this game!!

I love all the options they are giving us as far as abilities go, they are really doing a great job letting us create our own bad-ass (character). I'm curious to see if I start to hate myself by losing a level every time I want to re-spec. I imagine you really won't need to all that often.

Anyone have thoughts on that system? (losing one level if you want to re-spec your abilities)

I really dont mind. Most games have some sort of consequence for re-spec
Plus, if you love the game enough, you'll be playing it alot, and going from level 20 down to 19 for example wont be a big deal

Viking-
That's what I was originally asking was if for example it was possible for a Medic to buy and use abilities for an Engie
and someone replied there were no classes, guess I'll find out in 16hours

oh! you are never locked into a clas, and can switch at a CP any time during a game. You can buy abilities from multiple classes (and start with all the important stuff by default anyway), but you can only use abilities from your current class, not counting universal abilites, which are passive and always in effect.

No, while you can have any ability you want, some won't be effective in game based on what class you are currently running. Universal abilities are available to all classes in the game. However, you can switch your class in-game and that will also cause your active abilities to change based on what you selected.

Ok I'm getting it now, when you change a class at the command post the engineers ability wont follow if you select Medic as your class.

Now here is one other thing, what's the difference between a Passive and a Non Passive Ability, and do Passive Abilities take up one of the 3 ability slots?

So, just for the newb that I am: If I start playing as enginer and have some common skills and some engineer specific ones and now change my class ingame, I still profit from the common skills but can't (obviously) use my engineer specific ones?

If that's the case and if I specialize on one class only... where would be the point for me to switch classes ingame? Nice that I have the opportunity to do so but I guess it's better to specialize on one class instead of being average "skilled" for every class. What do you think?

Passive Abilities are always on. You don't have to click a button to use them. Active Abilities must be activated through a button. You can only use three Active Abilities at any given time and an unlimited amount of Passive Abilities.
