Better change it before it is too late, no matter how non "crossy/plus-like" it looks.

Brink has guns.
Guns = violent.
Violence + Cross = Big no no.

unless, unless it already has been changed, and I would wonder how the new symbol for the medic would look like.

I also don't know to what extent it is. Is it just a generic cross? A red colored cross? I don't know, but seeing how Wolfenstein 3d on XBLA and PSN change the cross to a heart, Wolfenstein medic symbol changed to a syringe, and Doom II's cross changed to a pill, it isn't quite shocking.

*sigh*

The red cross has been used in video games on health packs for over 20 years and it's only just now they have a problem with it?

yeah, since like whenever id stopped using crosses in their games. I only noticed since the Wolfenstein 3d ports to XBLA and PSN had hearts on them, which was mid 2009. Apparently they wanted it off since 2006, but some seemed to seep through, quake wars being an example. Also now, most games have regenerating health so the red cross in games isn't noticeable anyway.

I posted this thread when I saw that Doom II had a pill in their medkits instead of a cross. Then I checked the brink website, and the medic's symbol is a cross.

I also guess they finally got tired of the red cross symbol, or any cross symbol for the matter, being shown in violent games, and also in bags holding illegal substances.

I know it is lame, but censorship is better than no game at all. I mean, have you seen WWII games in germany?

Also, a more modern WWII movie. A wailing green van comes in. Wait, that's supposed to be an ambulance.

I don't see what the problem is. It's already universally known as the medic/health symbol, and not just in video games. Freakin' everywhere man! I think they stop worrying about how their logo is being used and focus on providing aid like they're supposed to.

And anyway, I doubt Brink will be banned because of this. The Red Cross is not a country nor does it have control over whether or not a country can ban things.

I hope so lol.

since it is the CANADIAN red cross, the canadian government will more likely ban it.

They only want it off violent media. Brink has guns, and therefore is violent. I also don't know if the ESRB rating has anything to do with it, where the Canadian red cross won't allow their symbol in "mature" or higher games.

I think Brink will get a Teen rating, since Quake Wars was Teen.

censorship is tough. I don't even know if the cross symbol is not allowed to be used in any violent game, or mature or over violent games. They only specified violent games, and I don't even know if Brink is put into the violent category. Guns and explosions on humans isn't really surprising.

It would be sad if our Canadian friends were denied Brink or any other fun game because of this. People need to get a grip on reality its a GAME!

A four year old article and almost no real controversy recently over videogames banned through use of red cross. So what's all the hype about?

Heh. I noticed the date on that article as well.

We'll have to wait and see what small non-controversial things get people all :ahhh: over this game.

Let's hope that neither Kevin McCullough or Jack Thompson find something horrific about this game  . Then again lots of free publicity :whistling:

Lol, they don't care if it is a game or not, they want their symbol out of all violent media. The only time they want their symbol seen is in real life war situations where they are actually helping people.

It's El Stupido, but that's the way things are.

How many other violent games made 2008 that still has a cross of any kind to signify the healing class or a health pack or health station? I rarely notice them because most games have regenerating health anyway.

The upside is, I don't know if the governments even care, or if it is supposed to be a scare tactic, and Nerve and Endrant took the bait, but it would svck if Canadians got denied.

Also the Germans got the same treatment. It isn't any different.

The intended use of the Red Cross (and similar symbols) is for protection in real conflicts. Signofzeta has it right above.

If symbols associated to the red cross cant be used then would most componies be switching back to hermes' caduceus or would they be creating their own symbol?

I talked to guys at Splash Damage. Brink isn't using a red cross. That being said, we don't need to keep this thread open.
