Broken Boone BugFix

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 2:41 pm

We don't get feedback on whether or not a problem has been noted and will be fixed in the next patch so I'm going to add something here and bump it up if need be so that it will be noticed and fixed. There's also a thread going on this in the PS3 forum because....

I have the PS3 version and the PC version of FNV. I can play on the PC with the BugFix but the PC game is still broken without the mod and needs to be fixed in Patch 1.3. Boone keeps reholstering his weapon in the middle of combat and doesn't head-track (look at you or other NPCs) any longer. He's like a zombie and he wasn't before the 1.2 patch.

"an issue in the VDialogueCraigBooneSCRIPT. There is a section that monitors the player's reputation with the NCR and triggers a force greet if certain conditions are met. The code was causing Boone to evaluate his packages every five seconds even when not required. Two semicolons fixes it. On hindsight, it's pretty obvious what was happening. An EVP will cause an NPC to drop out of combat - holster their weapon. When run constantly, apparently it breaks head tracking in the follow packages also."

The BugFix has been downloaded 275 times to this point...to rave reviews. :)

It's up to 302 total Downloads now. Still want this to be noticed by the Devs. How many people noticed this problem, I wonder? :)

There's a new thread reporting this problem in the Cheats area this morning but it's a Console User who isn't helped by a mod.

So far there are 332 Total Downloads and 232 Unique Downloads to fix this problem for the PC.

Fix still needed for all formats, thank you.

As of today there are now 355 Total Downloads and 243 Unique Downloads at the link above to fix this problem with Boone's combat and head-tracking for the PC. Hope more people on PC find this BugFix and it's fixed in the vanilla version for everyone on the next patch in all formats. Thank you.

It's so sad playing with Broken Boone. Please make another patch and include his fix in it. I know everyone's moving on with the new engine but we just got this game on the old one and it needs more tweaking to work right. :(

The downloads are now 371 Total, 251 Unique for PC but the console owners need this fix too.

Don't worry, according to your description of the hotfix, this issue is in Obsidians responsibility and they are not the ones working on TES5.

Thank you - I wonder if they will announce soon that another patch is on the way? I'm still worried that everyone will just move on and leave us hanging with these problems. I see the Boone combat problem as big but what if they don't? It's not fun to play with him on my PS3 version and there are PC people who don't mod and he's broken for them too. I do love the game and can live with some freezing but there are still some things that need fixing.

So far with the BugFix for PC, total downloads are 390 and unique downloads are 261.

It's becoming a huge disappointment that we haven't heard about a new patch yet. I'm able to play on PC with the BugFix but people who aren't modding are still stuck with a broken Boone who keeps holstering his weapon during combat and stands like a zombie the rest of the time.

To this point there have been 418 Total Downloads and 280 Unique Downloads for this BugFix.

Please announce the next patch with this fix included so everyone can have a Boone that works instead of one that was ruined by Patch 1.2. Thank you.

If a PC user hasn't downloaded this yet, it really does help.....................

Most people have the http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=38326 installed which contain the same fix as you've posted.

I doubt bumping your own thread a lot will make much difference for the better. Although I would also very much want to see a new patch..

Some people don't like using all-in-one bug-fix mods....I personally would rather have single specific mods for specific issues than get a mod that may also have lots of "fixes" that I don't need or require & are just more potential mod-conflicts.

It would be nice if there was at least some word on whether another patch is even going to be forthcoming. I'm a patient person and I don't mind waiting a month or even three if I have to, but at least letting people know there will be another patch (or not) would be useful. It's been over a month with not even a hint...for me personally, all the patches have made the game pretty stable crash wise, and I can live with a few glitchy quests and graphic weirdness, and I know Boone's issues aren't game-breaking (tho of course I prefer a working Boone, so I use the mod-fix)- but there's also things like the poison/stimpack/companion thing as well as a few other things that very much need fixing. :/

And of course, there's a http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37572. While it isn't the perfect solution, you'll need to go through several menus, it's better than nothing in some cases.

Hm. But that alters what companions can do/what you can apply to companions & gives them addiction parameters/rules etc. I don't like that. As a workaround I'd much rather create an item of clothing that gives a companion tons of poison resist or something. Does that even work in NV? I know companions have a little in their GECK stat page, but I don't know if it's actually applied. Think I'll test it.

At any rate...PC mod work-arounds do not help console players one bit. :)

Remember: Just because a mod gives you something to use, doesn't mean you have to use it. I only use it for healing and teleporting if I forget to tell a companion to follow me. Plus, the wheel is freely open to use as well as having the option to use vanilla scripts. It only adds things to the game, not changes based on what I've seen from it on FNVEdit. As for the Poison Resistance.. well, the best way to test it is to set an item to max poison resistance and go launch yourself into some Cazadors.

And yep.. however, this was in the PC section so I figured I might as well mention it.

There's a post in the Game Updates sticky from Feb 7th stating a patch is coming soon:
Wanted to let you know there's a new game update coming soon -- these will optimize the game for DLC and cover some issues reported in our forums – including performance and stability. We’ll let you know when the update is released.

Hopefully the Boone fix is listed under performance issues.

It has increased to 617 Total Downloads and 385 Unique Downloads to fix this problem for the PC.

When that new patch comes and the Boone BugFix is in it, I'll be able to play on PC without the mod and on the PS3 because I have a copy for that too. Fix still needed for all formats, still keeping hope alive.

It will be nice to have this fixed, Boone was absolutely useless in a cave without the fix mod.

/edit and thanks Kicenna for your efforts to draw attention to this problem.

Thank you for commenting and bumping it too. :) We can keep hope alive...

It would be great if someone could come out and say, "we got that one. "

674 downloads of the BugFix now. It works great so the devs just have to do it too. :)

Thank you.

Boone was ok before the last patch so hopefully he'll be fixed in the next patch...

Question & Answer asked of J.E. Sawyer:
What's the reasoning and what are the priorities your team works with when dealing with a patch (e.g. New Vegas)? The average consumer understandably probably expecst more work to be done on critical quest bugs rather than tweaking companion/weapons. asked by TheRealWUE

Joshua E. Sawyer JESawyer
Bugs are prioritized by severity, meaning crash bugs first, then crit path quest bugs, then major quest bugs/gameplay bugs, then minor quest bugs and tuning. From the consumer's perspective, there's just a large mass of people working on bugs, but in reality, individual members either should not fix, or are not capable of fixing, any given bug that's in the list.

For example, a programming bug would not be assigned to a designer, and a design bug would not be assigned to an artist. Even within a discipline, certain people are suited to fixing certain bugs. I do all weapon tuning because I did almost all of the weapon implementation. Quest designers fix their own quest bugs because they have the most intimate familiarity with how the quest is structured.

Assigning a critical quest bug to any warm body who happens to be occupying a chair can result in a lot of inefficiency -- and often new bugs created by the attempt at a "fix". Similarly, there are idiosyncrasies to how some sections of game code work that really demand the attention of one or two programmers. Throwing new programmers at the problem would likely result in them spending twice as long orienting themselves and possibly making some poor engineering decisions.

Such good news. High hopes the Boone fix is one of the ones mentioned. :) I'm also very happy to hear that there will be another patch after this one. It's a great game so thank you, devs.
