Broken Laptop Screen

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 10:22 am

Hello, all fellow forumites! I have a question regarding laptop screens and if I can fix it myself.

Okay, so there's this laptop where the screen doesn't work, but if you put a flashlight up to it you can see, so I figure that it's the back light that's broken and I was wondering if there was any way to be sure and how I could go about fixing it.

Please note: I have no problems trying to fix it myself and it isn't actually my laptop as I'm doing this as a favor for a friend. What I need to know is how to tell what exactly is wrong and how to fix it.

Thanks for any help.

Could be, but I have doubts as i don't think the light ever comes on. It's been like this since it went bouncing down the road after a car wreck.

That is one way to bust a laptop screen...

Yes, yes it is. Funnily enough the rest of the laptop works fine. It was in the case at the time.

Could be inverter, could be as simple as the connection on the back of the panel or the connection on the motherboard is loose. If the backlight is just completely out you need a new LCD panel.

That's not really true. I've looked around and It's actually rather easy to replace the back light.

Did it bounce along the ground clockwise or counter-clockwise? If you knew the direction, you could bounce it along the street in the opposite rotation, reversing the damage.

Try taking out the battery and put it back in. That will get rid of any static electricity built up within the battery and should fix your screen.

The battery was completely dead until a few days ago due to the OS being nuked somehow (Due to completely unrelated reasons).

I doubt it'd be anything that simple anyway. I don't actually have it with me because it's not mine. The screen may be broken, but the rest of the hardware works, so the owner has it hooked to a CRT.
