Broken Quest in College of Winterhold Quest Line

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 2:13 pm

For the quest "Hitting the Books", where you have to go to Fellglow Keep and collect the 3 books from the apprentice who ditched the College, wheneven I open to door into Fellglow keep, all I get is the loading screen with smoke billowing across it and my experience bar in the top right. The game DOES NOT continue to load past this screen, I hear music playing in the backround, the smoke is as I said billowing so its moving, telling me the game is NOT frozen, and of course I have to manually shut my PS3 off and then cycle it back on because I cant hold the PS3 button down and exit because the system is treating the game as if it has frozen. However, the game wont load past this point, its incredibly frustrating, because playing a mage character, I found this Quest Line to be particularly engaging but now I cant even progress in the College of Winterhold. I have the old "Fat" PS3 model, I have it updated to the latest update (3.73), and Skyrim is updated to the lastest patch. And for whatever reason I simply cannot pass this screen, therefore I cannot complete the quest, which means I cannot progress in the College of Winderhold. Please if anyone has had this happen post your experience, I would really like to see something done about this, or have it at least get the attention of the Devs.

Side Note: I get massive framerate drops in certain areas throughout the game, like seriously feet dragging framerate issues. Particularly when going through towns, again this is on the old Fat PS3.

i have the EXACT same problem. i thought maybe it was related to the 1.2 patch, but it seems that you had this problem before the patch came out. as you said, it's incredibly frustrating. have you been able to get through? does anyone know of a work-around?? on a possibly related side-note, i am also having trouble with the college of winterhold misc quest where i have to bring a copy of "Glories and Laments" to Urag. I already had the copy in my inventory but the game is not recognizing it. It is still sending me to the dungeon to retrieve it, but it's not there (seeing as how i already have it). This is just a minor annoyance since it's just a misc quest, but the Hitting the Books problem is terrible. Think the two are connected seeing as how they're both college of winterhold related?? I have the new "Skinny" PS3 model and am updated with the 1.2 patch. Any help from anyone would be great. Thanks!

I also have the issue. I had entered the area before accepting the quest and cleared the area. I wonder if that has any effect.

1) How do you check to see which patches have or have not been installed? I.m guessing that's what was meant by patch 1.2 in goyanks23 post. Sorry, I work in Quality Assurance with software. 1.02 =/= 1.2

Under Game Data Utility>Skyrim>Info ...
Title Skyrim Created 11/27/2011 1:52PM Size 4468 MB Version -
Title Skyrim Update Created 11/27/2011 1:52PM Size 92 MB Version 1.02

2) I too cleared the Keep just from wandering around earlier. It "freezes" almost the same way as the Nokti. The difference is, I can hit the PS button and quit the game. It still ends up shutting the console down but it can be restarted with just the controller (don't have to manually restart). This is on a slim PS3.

3) I saw a similar thread on an Xbox 360 site so it sholdn't be old vs. new PS3s.

4) How do you force patch 1.03/1.3 to download and does that fix it?

Once the 1.3 patch is distributed to the PS3/360 it will update normally when you play like any other patch. I can only assume. I'm hoping the 1.3 is available by Friday, and working. I don't mind them taking time to do it right.

I figured out that the 1.03/1.3 patch hadn't been released for consoles after I posted. Does anyone know if it includes a fix for this?
