A broken world?

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 3:05 am

I have been wondering for some time as to whether or not my world is broken. So, after a long absence from the forums I have returned to ask if the ‘anomalies’ I experience are similar for everyone.
  • I have completed the man storyline. Dragons still attack me ALL the time. 1/3 locations I fast travel too results in a pathetic battle where I wait for them to land and then butcher them.
  • Travelling the main roads by foot results in some feral animal attacking me around about every 100 yards.
  • I have completed the main TG quests but no one in the thief’s guild talks to me. Brynolf tells me “I’m too busy lad, come some other time” yet he just stays in the guild.
  • Effects from my weapons sometimes work or maybe just the visuals don’t? (although, they have been a lot more recently).
  • A BIG ONE is a random thief in Riften keeps causing havoc. The whole town chase him around and finally kill him then go back to normal. This really breaks immersion for me when I am trying to do a quest vanilla. One example is that I journeyed from solitude (on foot!) to Riften for a quest, I arrived late and decided to sleep in the tavern till morning, except when I walk into the tavern, lo and behold he is there to taunt me, running around the tavern upsetting everyone.
  • I can’t smith the Nightingale Blade.
  • People rarely talk to me, they just mumble the same trivial nonsense. Gone are the unique dialogues like the start of the golden claw quest.
  • Some dungeons don’t get marked as “cleared” even though I have been everywhere. I have even found a hidden chamber and thought, ha that has to be it…” Wright Matrix!?”. “WRONG”.

So there it is. There are probably a load more but off the top of my head. Please feel free to post your own and/or even better post some fixes! It’s very sad if I can’t because this is my main guy and I really can’t be bothered to start him again.

Cheers!

EDIT: Though of one more. Esbern won't talk to me. I have also never had the option to recruit Blades! (just foudn this out)

As far as #7 goes, Im afraid they pulled a Vilverin.
Meaning: Make sure the first hour or so of the game is amazing, because that is what the critics will see.
The rest? Not important.
So Im afraid that NPC's giving you directions and having meaningful conversations with you really only happens that one quest in Riverwood.
For the rest its mostly as you have noted, one line they repeat ad nauseum and often after finishing a quest NPC's will act as if nothing ever happened and they dont know you.

How about the random thief? anyone know how to stop that glitch? I have tired killing him and saving him. In the first instance he just comes back and the second results in an all out war where I drop everyone except the immortal NPC that hold a grudge.

The random thieves are hilarious. Whenever I find a dead one I dump him in the boat under the orphanage. I got three already.
A weird thing is that, even when I'm a thief myself, they're still hostile towards me, even though I'd rather help them. Also, since I have Brynjolf as a follower, and followers automatically attack all hostile creatures and people, hilarity ensues.

My random theif problem was in Riverwood. He was in the Riverwood trader everytime I went there for most of a game, no matter how many times I killed him. As leader of the Theives Guild I thought there would be a penalty for killing a fellow theif?

Nope, he's normal too... he doesn't fight back so the guards will always win without anyone else dying though... still, the river's getting a bit full of his clone bodies now

Its so true.

I dumped em behind a womans stall. No kidding I have between 6-8 now. Not counting the one in the pub. Here I was thinking of starting a new character....just avoided wasting hours of my life. There is no point building a palace on a broken foundation.

Do you think they will fix all these problems?

Most probably not.

Congrats, you've discovered Skyrims biggest flaw.
As someone once said on here. Skyrim is a mile wide and an inch deep. This thread highlights why.
