Buffing is a Drag

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 6:24 pm

Hello fellow Brink enthusiasts! I am enjoying being a healing/killing machine as the medic. The problem I'm facing is holding square and being dragged with the person all over, I know 'just let go' right. Well I was thinking we can make it so the two peoples actions blend better or the fleeing person is alerted to the intent of the other buffer or some other common ground. This game is gonna be Big...it already is and we can make it better. Thanks, spread the Light (hope).

If people sprint away from me before I can buff them I assume they don't want the engineering buff and will buff the people around me instead.
If I'm spawning after a death I'm normally sprinting in the same direction as the guy in front of me and find holding down the buff button makes me move a little faster (especially if that's a light in front of me) until i throw the buff.

Never get dragged out of cover to try and buff someone unless you're winning the game with that buff (adrenaline on someone fixing the final objective etc...).

I casually give out buffs, and if you buff me I'll buff you, if I can that is.

This is exactly what i do lol.

The only problem I have with the buffing is that it's kinda hard to buff one person in a crowd without buffing the wrong person, or that the holding X seems to take too long sometimes.(These aren't huge problems though, and can't really be altered without negative effect).

I religiously buff everyone on my team. It just makes sense to give your team every tactical advantage. The dragging isn't such an issue for me since I tend to stay constantly on the move. The only time it svcks is when you are trying to buff some idiot who wants to charge the opposing team solo and drags you along. I find though that a lot of people don't buff in this game which boggles my mind. I want everyone on my team to have the highest damage and armor ratings they can possibly have because the last thing I want to do in a game where my headshots don't count for squat is to be stuck defending an objective by myself.

The game works fine, plus, you can hear the characters say things like "Health Boost Coming Up!"

I too find the auto focus when buffing annoying at times.

Its hard to buff ppl on the fly as I will often get disoriented after the auto focus kicks in and spins me around back toward the guy I'm buffing.

It is also possible to exploit. You can attempt to buff a light weight on the move and just follow him around at faster pace than normal. You can cover a lot of ground quickly if you never actually give the buff, but just start and cancel the buff over and over.

Its a bit ludicrous when I can be at the objective in the same time as a light when I'm a heavy, just by buff canceling.

For any buff that doesn't get applied within a couple of seconds it would be nice to see something on the screen like is trying to buff you!.

If your planting/hacking, I'll give you adrenaline and now that I got improved health boost, I hand those out if you have less than half your health. Mostly, I just give cover fire and revive people.

Exactly part of the problem! That is a good topic to change those settings.

Personally one of the most annoying things as a medic is trying to revive someone on the run, and he has to look straight at the guy, inevitably leading to a frustrating death.

i agree there is an issue with auto focus i have had the same problem with the enemy jumping from a ledge or something and running past me. My crosshairs stick to them and spin me around just to find the the enemy has run a circle around me and im facing the wrong way i like to see a persn and react myself not be forced to after all its all about reaction time oh and stratagy of course

If a guy runs faster than me and I can't buff him he doesn't get a buff, but most of the time I just use the buff to drift off of him and gain some speed when I'm a larger body type, quite helpful buffing my way back to the frontlines.

When you go to buff someone, they hear "(insert buff description) INCOMING!" or something along those lines from your character. If they don't slow down, and you can't keep up, don't buff them - they got their warning.

Hey y'all! I'm hearing about 'heavy' body types able to 'buff cancel' their way to the front lines behind a light or medium body type...this should be untolerated. Heavy types have perks and suffer a penalty for that choice so it needs changing. peace (p.s. maybe this is already a topic)

As mainly an Operative it's difficult to buff.

When I engineer I'm handing Kevlar out like crazy because it can make all the difference, but Damage Boosts you only get if you're outnumbered otherwise I'd run out of pips all the time.

I like the Drag system except for when it locks on to the wrong dude. I don't think if I was playing Operative and have been doing well from a spot but instead of hiding I'm being forced out of cover because someone is trying to give me ammo when they could just get a little closer and let me continue from the safe spot I was in. Sure it means they sometimes need to put themselves in danger but they're getting points out of it so they should stop wimping.

Also, yes, the speed buff for trying to buff someone should be removed.

Exactly my issue. I have to hover around a downed ally waiting for the prompt to hold "x" to hand him a needle. It kind of makes me long for the defib paddles from Bad Company 2, which you just whip out and zap people with.

If the medic didn't have to take a little time to toss that needle it would be far too easy to just heal an entire crew that was downed. That's what the Lazarus Grenade is for.

I haven't tried buff cancelling, I just buff my way along with the various buffs I have, but there's not much they can do without removing the ability to drag, which would make heavies less useful as buffers, since they generally can't keep up with other body types.
