BUG: Both of my renamed weapons are now the same weapon, and

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 5:25 pm

Greetings,

I'm not sure exactly what caused this, but I have a pretty good idea it was caused by the quickslot menu under the favorites.

I have two Daedric War Axes, both with with the fire and absorb health enchants (Enchanting 100 FTW), and named them Burninator One, and Burninator Two.

I was messing with the quickslot settings under favorites (Keys 1 through 0), and selected both my weapons (Burninator One, and Burninator Two) as keys 1, 2. I then set four most used spells (Candlelight, Clairvoyance, Flames, Frostbite), as the next 4 keys, and and Whirlwind Sprint as key #7. Shortly after messing around with those skills, I noticed I could no longer select 1, 2, or 2, 1, or in any order to dual-wield my war axes. So I pressed Q to go to favorites, and it shows Burninator One (2). When I right-click, I arm the axe in my left hand, and when I left click, I arm the axe in my right hand. However, I do not get a indicator showing that I can dual wield.

So, to get around this (which is quite annoying when you swap methods of attacking often), all I have to do is to go my Items -> Weapons and then click left/right on each of my Burninator Ones (all though the second one should be named Two). If I favorite both of them, they show up in my favorites list until I equip them both, and have to select a different method of attack.

I also went through the trouble of crafting new axes and enchanting them, and it happened again without renaming them (Daedric War Axe (2)).

Help!

This is a pretty well-known bug (well, among the small subset of people who study them I guess.... heh) and I don't think it's caused by the quickslot. Simply if there are two player-enchanted weapons with the same enchantments, stats and base object but different names, the engine will get confused and give them the same name.

I have two Daedric War Axes
I noticed I could no longer select 1, 2, or 2, 1, or in any order to dual-wield my war axes.

This isn't how the hotkeys work, unfortunately. Weapons will always be equipped to the right hand. The game doesn't remember what hand the weapon or spell is in when you hotkey it, so pressing 1 and 2 will just change what weapon you have in your right hand. To dual wield via the hotkeys, you have to have two identical weapons that show on the favorites menu as "weaponname (2)" with the same hotkey assigned to the group, then you press the hotkey twice. Unfortunately, this group will have its hotkey removed (!) if you do the same thing with another weapon set or spell (e.g. dual casting Healing). This is a bug. Alternatively, you can just use the favorites menu until someone provides an SKSE plugin that fixes the problem.

This is a pretty well-known bug (well, among the small subset of people who study them I guess.... heh) and I don't think it's caused by the quickslot. Simply if there are two player-enchanted weapons with the same enchantments, stats and base object but different names, the engine will get confused and give them the same name.

This is correct, and the bug extends well beyond the context of the favorites menu. If you have multiple items with the same enchantment and the same magnitude, they will show up as duplicates on the Active Effects list. For example, if you have gauntlets, a ring and a necklace all enchanted with Fortify One-Handed +26%, and have all of them equipped, the game may list them all as being from one item, making it look like an effect is being duplicated. It may even show the effect as from one item (e.g. a ring) when in fact you only have the gauntlets equipped. I believe it behaves the way it does on the favorites menu because the game is trying to call an item from your inventory, but then 'writes' the item once it has been called, effectively renaming the item because of the previously mentioned bug.

In summary, dual wielding of weapons only works reliably if you use the favorites menu to equip your left-hand weapon. Hotkeying of weapons to be used in the left hand doesn't allow you to equip them in the left hand - it only exposes them to the effects of this bug.

Easy workaround, enchant each weapon and rename them different things.

You must individually equip each ax by selecting one of them via hot-key
NOTE: you must first favorite each ax separately by going to inventory select weapons section, click f to favorite (if the two axes are pilled together and you hit f to favorite it will only favorite one ax not both, so make sure you favorite each one when items are pilled together). Next go to favorites, then highlight the ax and hit a number of your preference 1 through 8 on the keyboard. Now do the same for the other ax, but it can be the same hot-key number as the previous. Finally hit the hot-key that u have assign for one ax and then hit the other hotkey for the other ax.

i hoped this helped

Does changing the order of the two enchantments prevent them from being stacked?

You can also use the http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3865 mod that allows you to bind anything to any key to either hand. This resolves the dual-weilding issue completely without needing to open your inventory, use your favorites, or what for an SKSE moad as suggested.

I ran around with Burninator One and Burninator Two for about 30 levels without a single issue until I started using the quick slot keys.

Thanks for the replies! I tried googling this bug with many different search strings and never found any good threads. I was hoping the bug was known, because it sure is annoying! :D

Just reporting in!

This did not work for me, unfortunately. :(

Is there a way to "un-enchant" or re-enchant an item without creating another one from crafting materials?

Next go to favorites, then highlight the ax and hit a number of your preference 1 through 8 on the keyboard. Now do the same for the other ax, but it can be the same hot-key number as the previous. That is masterful! Even though I can't press 1, 2, to get them equipped in each hand, at least they are seperated on the favorites list now! Thank you!

I should try this and report.

So this works if the ax is assign to a hot-key that is 3 through 8 but not 1 nor 2?
Also I will try to simulate the problem your experiencing and see if there is a solution.

No. Any one-handed weapon that you set to a hotkey (doesn't matter which weapon or hotkey) will go into the right hand no matter if something is already there. The best solution for this issue is to use the mod that I posted above. It solves this issue to a tee as I've been using it on my dual-weilding thief magic user for awhile now and loving it to death.

I can't stress enough how great the mod is and how easy it is to install. Everyone should be using it.

It should be mentioned that this mod you mention won't work without Script Dragon.

The link I provided covers all the requirements. It's not like SD is evil or anything. It's just a couple files that you throw into your Skyrim directory and forget about. No special launcher. No need for Nexus Mod Manger. Just download, extract, play.

I set my axes as hotkeys 1 and 2 to seperate them in the favorites menu. I still have to manually click right/left on them to select them...but at least I no longer have to go to the items -> weapons menu.
